Victoria Naeem INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN

I have enjoyed a passion for architecture and design for as long as | can remember, having one foot in the past with an interest in history and another in the future looking at new materials and design innovations.

Year 2 Project 1

Place Production. The Adaptive Home.

Brief -To re-design an office building into serviced co-housing for the 3rd ager generation. The building was 8-10 Dean Park Crescent, Bournemouth known as BH1. My design was aimed at creative

I designed the top 6 floors as spacious apartments for co-living. Each apartment has 3 en-suite double bedrooms with walk-in strorage and shared open plan living space and a small studio space with floor to ceiling sliding doors and private balcony. The apartments were fully accessible and adaptable making them homes for life.

The stairwell is now an art gallery with larger windows for maximum natural light. I added a ground floor extension, built on the existing foundations, to be used as a workshop. The ground floor space also included a kitchen, communal dining area, an office and studio space with floor to ceiling sliding doors to completely open up the space.

The 2nd floor basement is reserved for disabled parking, mobility scooters and bicycles with the lift access.

The first floor basement includes a laundry, gym, general storage space and personal storage units for each bedroom occupied.

A high wall is built on the roof on the north side to be covered in plants to help with the noise and pollution coming from the busy A338. There is seating and planting for fruit and vegetables and a covered area to provide shade.

My design maximises the southern light at the rear of the building.

An element of the unit was to show a construction detail. The apartments have a wall made from Dacryl panels and I designed a construction detail to show how the panels are fixed to the floor and the ceiling. For the first time I also completed a materials discussion for the apartments with full f, f &e schedule.

Year 1 Project 2

Socially Conscious Design.

The Brief - Design a meeting place for a group of your choosing in the Triangle area of Bournemouth, 6 St Michaels Road. The space will be temporary, 6 months to a year, within a Grade II listed building spanning two floors. The furnishings will be temporary, modular and sensitive to the building - pop-up and pop-down leaving no trace on the building. Investigate social sustainability and the implication it has on the community, space and interaction between people.

Year 1 Project 1

Brief - To interpret the neo-realist short story 'The Distance of the Moon' by Italo Calvino and design a theatre set for The Shelley Theatre in Bournemouth.

The story conjured up images of Terry Gilliam's 'magic realism' with futuristic retro technology. The rising popularity of vintage technology led me to design in the Steampunk style.

The earth set was very handmade using traditional flats and curtains, while the moon set was in complete contrast using lighting and reflections for sparse ethereal effect.
