WHY TRAINING YOUR STOP MUSCLE IS A VITAL STEP IN PROTECTING YOURSELF FROM FRAUD

Social media platforms are built to reduce our attention span, priming us to react instantly rather than taking our time. This has weakened what we call ‘The Stop Muscle’ – our ability to stop, think and Take Five when we are asked for our personal or financial information. But it is the act of stopping that remains one of our most powerful defences against scams.

Check out our latest blog to find out more about ‘The Stop Muscle’.

TAKE FIVE TO STOP FRAUD

Criminals are experts at impersonating people, organisations and the police. They spend hours researching you for their scams, hoping you’ll let your guard down for just a moment. Stop and think. It could protect you and your money.

Stop

Take a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information. It could keep you safe.

Challenge

Could it be fake? It’s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you.

Protect

Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve been scammed and report it to Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk or on 0330 123 2040.

Are you scam-savvy?

Criminals are turning to more sophisticated ways to take your money, whether through online offers, emails or telephone calls. Can you outsmart them? Put your ability to spot a scam to the test with our quick quiz.

The Stop Muscle

The act of stopping remains one of our most powerful defences against scams. That's why we're encouraging people to train their ‘The Stop Muscle’ – our ability to stop, think and Take Five. Watch our campaign video to find out more!
