Phase 5

Procurement

During the procurement phase of finalizing the DAT intervention there are several procurement steps that need to be completed. Irrespective of the technology selected, it is necessary to setup the adherence platform and server hosting and to procure devices and communication infrastructure for healthcare providers.

Each technology has its own procurement cycle for the physical DAT.

Much of the background infrastructure that is required for the DAT to function optimally can be outsourced to specific infrastructure experts to set up on your behalf.

Adherence Platform

At this point in the process, you may have already decided on the adherence platfrom that will be used in country.

If you are still due to select an adherence platform, the following page can be consulted to learn more about different solutions available.

Data Storage Server Hosting

A dedicated server needs to be set up for patient adherence data to be stored and accessed by healthcare providers, irrespective of the type of DAT selected.

Generally, the preferred option is global cloud-based hosting as it offers reliability, sufficient speed, security, and the ability to scale.

As the Global DAT Task Force we will be able to guide you through the considerations for the most suitable option for your country context.

Devices and communication infrastructure for the facilities / healthcare providers:

It may be necessary to procure devices for healthcare providers to access the adherence platform (a laptop/tablet), as well as mobile data or a Wi-Fi connection if this is not available at facility level.

Secondly, the healthcare facilities will require a phone to contact patients that require additional support or require a follow up due to non-adherence.

Procure the DAT

Each technology has its own specific procurement cycle. Therefore, once you have identified the technology/technologies you will be using within your setting you can follow the steps set out in its specific cycle.

Technical Assistance

The Global DAT Task Force is fully funded to provide technical assistance to countries in their DAT planning, roll-out and scale up, including:

  • Budget development
  • Proposal development for the inclusion of DATs in Global Fund applications
  • Identifying additional local and global funding streams
