Foster Care Fortnight 2022

Foster Care Fortnight™ is The Fostering Network's annual campaign to raise the profile of fostering and show how foster care transforms lives. Foster Care Fortnight 2022 took place from 9-22 May.

Foster Care Fortnight™ is the UK’s biggest foster care awareness raising campaign, delivered by leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network. Established in 1997, the campaign showcases the commitment, passion and dedication of foster carers. It also supports fostering services to highlight the need for more foster carers. Thousands of new foster families are needed every year to care for children, with the greatest need being for foster carers for older children, sibling groups, disabled children and unaccompanied asylum seeking children.

Running from Monday 9 May until Sunday 22 May, our theme this year was ‘fostering communities’ and we used the campaign to shine a light on the many ways people across the fostering community support each other.

Throughout the fortnight, The Fostering Network ran events, shared content on our social media channels and made as much noise as possible about the transformative power of foster care, with support from foster carers and others in the community who got involved too.

Whether you’re a foster carer, a social worker, young person or supporter of foster care you are part of a community making a real difference to the lives of young people, and we want to celebrate the impact you all have.

Celebrating our #FCF22 success

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved with Foster Care Fortnight 2022!

Thanks to your support, this year’s campaign was a great success – with hundreds of people across the UK sharing stories, highlighting their achievements and joining Foster Walk in celebration of our fantastic #FosteringCommunities. By getting involved, you not only helped us raise the profile of fostering but encouraged others to join our wonderful community.

Together, we also set out to achieve our biggest ever Foster Walk goal of 5,000,000 steps – in recognition of the 70,000 children in foster care who need our support. We are delighted to announce that we not only achieved our goal but smashed it by a landslide 12,389,231 steps!

We also broke a few Foster Walk records along the way. Torbay Council fielded the largest group with six teams of staff, foster carers and councillors. Foster Walk also reached new heights thanks to one amazing family’s climb up Ben Lomond (990m) in Scotland, and Foster Wales’ Snowden ascent (1085m). And it reached new speeds too, with one runner completing the Great Manchester Half Marathon in under two hours.

Our Foster Walk success is testament to the strength and resilience of our community – and is an achievement that we should all be very proud of.

Whether you joined Foster Walk, shared your story or helped spread the word about #FCF22, every contribution made a difference. Thank you again for your support, we look forward to celebrating Foster Care Fortnight again with you next year
