Planning – Application Summary

• Application is received by the South Downs National Park Authority either via the National Planning Portal, by email or by post.

NB: not all applications are complete at the time of submission, and there may be some delay to the validation process whilst outstanding matters are attended to by the applicant/agent.

• The application has been checked for completeness including matters such as:
  • An appropriate application form has been submitted and completed correctly
  • Required supporting documents are present and correct
  • Site Location plan is present
  • Appropriate fee is paid
  • Applicant (or their agent) is contacted to acknowledge the application has been accepted

• Statutory consultation period commences. Depending on the application type, this may include:
  • Inclusion on Weekly list
  • Posting of site notices
  • Advertising in local media
  • Writing to neighbours
  • Liasing with statutory consultees and other professional bodies

NB: not all submissions require the authority to consult with professional bodies, or invite comments from interested parties

• The Planning Officer checks the application against local policies and other considerations e.g. aesthetics, noise, etc.
• The Planning Officer considers the comments from interested parties and consultees
• The Planning Officer will preparae a report for the Head of Planning for decision under delegated powers, or referral to committee

• The Planning Department issues a Decision Notice informing the Applicant (or their agent) of the outcome of the application
• The decision is published on the statutory public register.
