Ciara Dwyer

Age: 24.

From:Galway, living in Dublin.

In English class:The teacher told the class to write a note to themselves for 10 years’ time. Caoimhe Glynn wrote, “If you don’t do music, you will fail me.” She followed her gut. Now, she is Reylta, on the cusp of a musical career.

Self-starter: This brilliant folk singer-songwriter has been busy. At eight, she taught herself piano, then she moved on to guitar, tin whistle, ukulele and now she is learning the violin. She has a degree in songwriting from BIMM and she went to Gweedore to record 15 songs in three days. Her bilingual single, Lucifer’s Lovewas released last month in English and Irish, and Closer, the third single from her debut album, is out this month.

Her sound: “There are a lot of choral harmonies and string arrangements in my music. My songs have a lyrical content and they are quite ethereal. I write all the time. I used to go to speech and drama classes and that’s where I get my love of poetry. I’m a failed poet, so I write music instead. It works just as well.”

Beauty: “I want to play in beautiful venues, where you are seated. I want it to be an experience.” Catch her on May 5 at in Artemis with Sinéad Ann at Smock Alley, Dublin, and on May 20 at An Taibhdhearc, Galway. See reylta.com; Instagram and Facebook: @reylta
