On their final night as a band, Waterford's O Emperor won the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year for their swansong record Jason.

Speaking onstage at Dublin's Vicar Street on Thursday night, the group described the €10,000 prize and their goodbye performance at the awards show as "a great way to finish up".

"We all need the money!" they added.

When asked if they were having second thoughts about splitting up, they replied: "We're probably grand now!"

The members of O Emperor plan to continue working on various musical projects after their Choice Music Prize win. Previous winners of the award include The Gloaming, SOAK, Villagers, Delorentos and Jape.

Chair of the judging panel Tony Clayton-Lea said: "Once again 2018 was a terrific year for the quality of Irish albums released, and the judging process reflected this.

"Of all the years that I have been chairman of the judging panel, this year was the closest in terms of winner and runner-up, with Kojaque's album Deli Daydreams pipped at the post by O Emperor."

Picture This won the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Song of the Year for their track One Drink, with the winning song decided by public vote.
