She is co-author of Madam and Eve: women portraying women, Laurence King and wrote the introduction to Phaidon’s 500 Self-portraits, both 2018.
Rideal's photographs of active silks derive from the photo-booth curtains of her early art practice; both mimic draperies found in period paintings and sculptures. Liberated swathes masquerade as rainbow ghosts both within interiors and in the open countryside; the trailing bursts of coloured cloth dancing their way through the formality of the sculptures, paintings and architecture.
Rideal's artwork is held in public collections including Tate; Victoria & Albert Museum; British Museum; The National Portrait Gallery; The Vancouver Art Gallery, Canada; Museet for Fotokunst, Denmark; La Bibliothèque Nationale, France; Portland Art Museum, Oregon; The George Eastman Museum, Berkeley Art Museum & the Yale Centre for British Art, USA. Since 1985, she has had over 50 solo exhibitions in both public and private art galleries across Europe and America with 5 catalogue publications and 20 public commissions.
Rideal received a Leverhulme Fellowship in 2016-17, a British Academy award to work in India in 2011, and the Rome Wingate Scholarship at the British School at Rome in 2008/9.edit

How to Read Paintings is a valuable visual guide to Western European painting. Through a gallery of artworks accompanied by informative captions, it enables readers to swiftly develop their understanding of the grammar and vocabulary of painting; and to discover how to look at diverse paintings in detail. In the first part of the book, the Grammar of Art, the author reveals how to read paintings by considering five key areas: shape and support, style and medium, compositional devices, genre and the meaning of recurring motifs and symbols. In the second part, we explore fifty paintings through extracted details, accompanied by insightful commentary, training the reader and viewer to understand context and discover meaning within art.As a collection, the pictures featured in How to Read Paintings have a strong relationship with one another, and underpin the story of painting. This book will be a valuable tool whether you are viewing the real thing on a gallery wall, or simply reading around the subject to learn more about Western art. - See more at: http://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/how-to-read-paintings-9781472525123/#sthash.LVh73i3D.dpuf
