We have an excellent opportunity for a Professor and Research Lead in Robotics and Autonomous Systems  

Applications are invited for Chair / Professorship role, expanding the University’s internationally leading research activities in Robotics, Autonomous Systems, and future transport systems. 

NERIC is going to be hugely influential, and we’re keen to entice world-leading experts with an academic background and industry connections, to work with a team of 5 dedicated Post-Doc Researchers and lead on this exciting initiative. 

In addition to being an internationally renowned researcher with a track-record of innovation and leadership, you will consolidate existing activity, while establishing new, interdisciplinary collaborations across the University, and with external academic and industrial partners, helping drive the impact agenda in the School.

We particularly encourage applications from people with expertise / interests in health / assisted living, autonomous vehicles, and implementation of robotics in manufacturing.

Currently undergoing transformational change, The University of Salford is positioning itself at the leading edge of higher education institutions in this country.

We are developing our new North of England Robotics Innovation Centre (NERIC) alongside that.

NERIC will be an internationally acclaimed research and innovation ‘go-to’ facility and provider of Robotics / AI solutions for SMEs; housing robotics, manufacturing labs, a healthcare robotics laboratory, an industrial collaboration space and a smart mobility laboratory and will serve as a hub for the University of Salford’s robotics and automation specialists who will work with SMEs around the country to provide solution development, design, testing and validation of digital innovation.

Disciplines covered by the development will include robotics for:

  • Intelligent infrastructure
  • Digital automation and supply chain improvement
  • Health, wellbeing, and integrated care technologies

The Centre will look to develop solutions to problems that can be matured for everyday use - technologies that become ubiquitous, an essential part of how we all work and live.
