Metro Mayor Dan Norris will be urging businesses and local organisations to take immediate action and cut carbon emissions as the West of England Combined Authority and UWE host Planet Mark’s Zero Carbon Tour on Friday 10 September, 12-4pm.

The Mayor will be visiting the #ZeroCarbonTour as it stops off at UWE’s Frenchay campus on its way through the UK to the UN’s Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow in November.

The aim of the tour is to share the net zero message with the business community and raise awareness of the UN Race to Zero and the UK’s #TogetherForOurPlanet campaign.

West of England Mayor Dan Norris said: “The climate emergency is humanity’s most urgent crisis, and across the West of England we all need to play a part in beating it.

“I look forward to officially welcoming the Zero Carbon Tour as it rolls into the West of England, and to seeing how it supports the enthusiasm and commitment of everyone locally to meet our ambitious goal of net zero carbon by 2030.

“I hear there will be carbon clinics followed later by free Net Zero Essentials workshops giving proven and practical tips and explaining what support is on offer on how best to go about it. The climate and biodiversity emergency is urgent – I’m determined to make sure our region is doing its bit to tackle it.”

At the event visitors will be able to see Planet Mark’s carbon battle bus which is the first 100% electric coach in the UK, find out more about the UN Race to Zero campaign and hear inspirational Carbon Stories from local business, organisations and community groups about the impactful projects they are undertaking to decarbonise.

Attendees will also be able to find out more about the initiatives available across the region, such as the West of England Low Carbon Challenge Fund, to support their journey to net zero.

The Combined Authority’s new group-buying scheme, ‘Solar Together West of England’ is now live and may be suitable for some businesses as well as homeowners across the region.  For more information visit www.solartogether.co.uk/west-of-england.

Examples of sustainability action gathered during the Tour will be showcased at COP26 to inspire others to create similar initiatives around the world. You can book your place at the Zero Carbon Tour here.

Please consider how you travel to the event. UWE’s Frenchay campus is well connected to the public transport network. For further information visit UWE’s travel pages.
