Victims’ Commissioner launches new Victims’ Survey

Have you been a victim of crime? Complete my Victims' Survey 2021. Share your views of the criminal justice system.

Dame Vera Baird calls for victims to share their views of the criminal justice system.

The Victims’ Commissioner, Dame Vera Baird QC, has today (28 May) launched her new survey of victims’ experiences of the criminal justice system.

The survey seeks to learn about victims’ experiences of the criminal justice system in the past three years.

Designed by the Commissioner’s research team, the survey consists of a series of short questions about victims’ experiences of every stage of the criminal justice process from the initial incident, through the police investigation to any subsequent court hearing.

Results of the survey will feed into a report charting the victim experience of the criminal justice system and victims’ services in 2020.

The survey asks questions related to how victims were treated by criminal justice agencies, whether they were kept informed, what about the experience was good and what was bad, from the initial incident, through the police investigation to any subsequent court hearing.

The responses will give an insight into the real experiences of victims of crime and help to inform the priorities of the Victims’ Commissioner in championing victims’ rights and perspective.

As the Victims’ Commissioner for England and Wales, I champion the rights of victims and make sure they are treated fairly and correctly by the criminal justice system. It is vitally important that I hear from victims about their experiences of the criminal justice system. This is your chance to give me your perspectives. By sharing your feedback, I can help ensure future victims receive the support and justice outcomes they need.
