About this event

We IMAGINE Stories is a workshop as part of the Creative Complexity project.

This workshop has two parts. You can take part in one or both parts:

• Family drawing - before the workshop we want you and your family to get creative and send in your drawings. Following registration, we will send out instructions. We will display some of the artwork you submit at the online workshop.

• Online workshop - aimed at parents and older children (under 16s must be supervised by a responsible adult on zoom).

The online creative workshop will:

• Provide an update on the IMAGINE-ID project
• Share experiences with other families within the IMAGINE-ID study over zoom
• Enable experiences to be captured using “cinquain poems” – do not fear facilitators will guide you through the process
• Contribute to the Creative Complexity project that aims to highlight the experiences of individuals and families with rare genetic conditions through creative methods.

Creative Complexity team

Samuel is a Research Fellow at the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics & Genomics at Cardiff University. He has been part of IMAGINE-ID for 5 years and his research investigates the development and mental health of individuals with rare genetic conditions.

Catrin is Communications Manager at the National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH) at Cardiff University. She is experienced in running and supporting lots of events around mental health and genetics.

Jeanne is a Research Fellow at Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health at University College London. She has been part of IMAGINE-ID since it started in 2014 and her research focuses on the psychological profiles of individuals with rare genetic conditions and the development of interventions.

Neus and Ben are internationally renowned artists from Phenotypica, who explore genetic concepts through art and their work has been showcased in a range of galleries including the Tate.

FAQs

How do I access the workshop?

Please register through Eventbrite to confirm your place for the workshop. You will receive the workshop link and passcode in the confirmation email. Please be aware this email may be in your Junk mail.

If it is the day of/day before the event and you don't have an email with the joining details yet, please check your spam/ junk folders first to make sure it is in there. If not, then please email creativecomplexity@cardiff.ac.uk and we will attempt to respond to you with the details before the session starts.

Do I need a Zoom account?

If this is your first time using Zoom then it is worth joining early so that you can get through set up. You will need an email address to register and then it should only take a couple of minutes. Please find some guidance for joining a Zoom workshop here.

Will the session be interactive?

The workshop will start with introductory talks and then you will be split into small groups via zoom breakout rooms (do not worry this will all be managed by the Creative Complexity team).

What will happen to poems I write and my drawings?

These will go into the Creative Complexity project. Individual poems or drawings may be displayed online or as part of a physical exhibition. Poems and drawings may also be combined into a meta-artwork reflecting the shared experiences of individuals and families with rare genetic conditions. Full details can be found here.

What will I get for my time and participation?

You will be provided with access to a digital exhibition based on the creative outputs of the workshop.

A certification of participation will also be provided to thank you for your involvement in the Creative Complexity project.

What will happen if the event is oversubscribed?

If the event is oversubscribed you will be placed on a waiting list. When a ticket becomes available you will be notified automatically. If this session is full we will be in touch with details about a future workshop we are planning.

For the purposes of the waiting list, we will store your name and contact details and we will contact you if a space becomes available, or if a future workshop date becomes available.
