Women of the Merchant City

The Women of the Merchant City Walk was launched in 2009 and our tour guides have been educating and entertaining visitors ever since. The Merchant City’s hidden history is uncovered during this walk around Glasgow’s cosmopolitan hub, revealing the female stars that stud the fabric of this famous quarter.

The walk will take you from the upper edges of the Merchant City at the Montrose Street hill to the Tron clock tower and the medieval-looking Mercat Cross. Scandal, vice, radicalism, regeneration and revival are topics highlighted by this original tour.

“I enjoyed hearing about the remarkable women who lived and worked in the area [and] the enthusiasm and knowledge of the guide.”
