Highlights

Highlands & Islands of Scotland

The Highlands and Islands are a veritable photo album of majestic mountains, mysterious lochs and sublime seascapes. Directed by an expert driver-guide throughout, this eight-day itinerary stretches beyond the cities and into the wild west and north coast. Alight on the Isle of Mull and enter Duart Castle, the ancient seat of the Clan Maclean. Walk in the shadow of Britain's highest peak, Ben Nevis. Discover a rich history on the Isle of Skye. Visit the attractive town of Pitlochry and Blair Castle. Plot a course through the Cairngorm mountain range, enjoying stops at some of the best whisky distilleries in Scotland. Contemplate the legend of Nessie as you stare into the deep, dark waters of the loch. Visit Culloden Moor, the site where the Jacobite army of Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated. Uncover Scottish folklore and much, much more.

Arrive Glasgow – Isle of Eriska

Upon arrival at Glasgow International Airport you will be introduced to your driver-guide who will accompany you on this tour. Sit back and enjoy the private transfer to your island hotel on the shores of Scotland’s west coast. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure to relax and enjoy the setting of your hotel.

Isles of Mull and Iona

Leave your hotel this morning for a full day touring with your driver-guide and private vehicle. Drive to the port in Oban and board the ferry for the Isle of Mull. Alight at Craignure and follow the scenic route to Fionnphort. Visit Duart Castle, a stronghold of the Maclean Clan for over 400 years. Here, board the small ferry as foot passengers for the short journey to Iona, the cradle of Scottish Christianity. Visit the Abbey Church, originally founded by St. Columa, see the burial ground of the ancient Scottish Kings, and enjoy excellent views of the Hebrides. Return to Oban by the same route.

Isle of Eriska – Ben Nevis – Fort William

Travel northwards today with your driver-guide towards the town of Fort William. Towering over the town is Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK. You may wish to take the gondola up the mountain to enjoy fantastic views. Check into your hotel and take advantage of the activities on offer including fishing and clay pigeon shooting.

Isle of Skye

Today, your driver-guide will take you out to the Isle of Skye. Proceed along the Great Glen in the shadow of Ben Nevis until you reach Loch Ness. Continue over the mountains to Glen Shiel, the valley that leads you to the West Coast. In Loch Duich, visit the romantic Eilean Donan Castle. Continue on to the Isle of Skye. Pause for a flavour of Gaelic heritage at the Clan Donald Centre before returning to the mainland by the ferry to Mallaig. Drive along the 'Road to the Isles' that leads to Fort William, and pass the Glenfinnan monument, where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard in 1745.

Fort William – Blair Castle – The Whisky Trail – Inverness

Visit Pitlochry and Blair Castle. Blair Castle was the heart of the ancient Kingdom Atholl and home to the Duke of Atholl. The Duke retains the only private army in Europe, which is based within Blair. Continue North with your driver-guide through the Cairngorm Mountain range, enjoying stops at some of the best whisky distilleries in Scotland.

Wester Ross

Enjoy the journey into the rugged landscape of Wester Ross. Head towards the West Coast where the mountains of Torridon dominate the Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve. Your driver-guide will skirt the shores of Loch Maree until you reach Poolewe and visit the Inverewe Gardens, a delightful woodland paradise benefiting from the windbreak effect of the surrounding pine trees. Return to Inverness by a more northerly route. You may like to visit the picturesque fishing port of Ullapool, located on the shores of Loch Broom.

Culloden and Loch Ness

Spend the day  with your driver-guide enjoying the area around Loch Ness. Visit Urquhart Castle, once one of Scotland's biggest castles, but now in ruins for more than 200 years. There has been a fortress on this point since Iron Age times, but after the victory of the English at the battle of Dunbar in 1296, Edward 1st of England built the current fortress structure. Back in Inverness, visit Culloden Moor, the site where the Jacobite army of Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated in 1746.
