  • Summary

  • Please note: this series contains adult themes, explicit language and references to child abuse and suicide. Listener discretion is advised.

It started with an anonymous post in 2017. They called themselves 'Q' and left a trail of cryptic messages for an increasing number of followers to obsess over. Over the years, the conspiracy theory became a movement, crashing into mainstream politics and breaking countless families along the way.

Over this investigation, journalist Nicky Woolf dives into the online and offline world of QAnon in his search to find the shadowy figure behind it all and the legacy they've created.

A good introduction to the this craziness

As a voyeur to all this Trump, this podcast pulls back the rug where all the cult dort is hidden...

Well researched and totally binge worthy.

A fascinating look at who could be the people behind QAnon. Definitely worth listening to.

Best one yet

This is the most informative QAnon programme I have found to date with some real characters interviewed

Really interesting but tails off

This is a really engaging and interesting pod series and is very bingeable but it does tail off in the last few eps and the end is a bit disappointing. It was all very listenable but the actual quest for Q ends up being a bit surpurflous and large leaps are taken when the interesting stuff is around it. Definitely worth a listen just could have been really great.

Good explanation how conspiracy theories form

Very good and engaging description of conspiracy theories.

First half was very interesting, but second half was too slow and with too much filling material, not really relevant to the story. Anyway, would still recommend to listen at least to the first half.

Gripping!

I could not get enough of this!

I knew very little about Q anon but the subject matter is fascinating, the story of normal people's lives ruined and the way this cult has taken hold is shocking... And all for what? By who...?

Nicky presents his findings with fantastic story telling, the documentary is put together in a way that has left me had wanting more.

I will be waiting eagerly for more content by Nicky Woolf

Totally binged on this one! Clear your schedules..

Normally I save my podcasts for dog walking so maybe do a couple of eps a day.. not this one.. Binged the whole lot.. It was a fascinating insight intermingled with some real edge of seat reporting. It is one of the very few podcasts that I am actually thinking of listening to again.. there is quite a lot of information but in some episodes you are so grippled by the tension you almost forget to listen to the narrative.

I highly recommend this!

Spectacular Stuff! Scary but fascinating!

This is a pretty serious piece of journalism/current affairs and could have easily have been staid considering the seriousness of the subject despite the fantastical and absolutely bizarre claims of said Q. However it is engaging, narrated really well and has completely captured my attention, so much so that I've played the first 3 episodes back to back and if it wasn't 3am I would be continuing to listen to it. As for a comment of a previous reviewer; about the speed of Aoife Gallagher, she is from Northern Ireland and we only have two speeds of speech - lightening and turbo charged! 😉😂

Edit:

I've now finished the entire series and all I can say is massive props to the journalist Nicky Woolfe, it is a fantastic piece of investigative journalism. His dogged investigation, the compassion that was plain for the victims of this conspiracy theory and for remaining completely unflappable and unafraid in the face of a very thinly veiled threat from one of the 'suspects' (I won't say who so there's no spoiler) is commendable! I don't think I would have been able to keep my cool!

I have completely mixed feelings after reading it. My overall feeling is deep sadness which is what Nicky Woolfe seems to have felt himself. It's all great listening to this with a macrbe voyeuristic bent but when you think about the actual casualties of this cult (and make no mistake it is a cult, a cult of the digital age so perhaps don't see it in the same vein as other cults but regardless I've no doubt in my mind that it is a cult!), people losing their loved ones to the insanity of the 'teachings', forsaking their spouses, children etc. I was horrified and actually frightened of manipulative, charismatic, egotistical control of Q and their 'disciples'. There is nothing more dangerous than a true believer! I also must say this, I mean really, some of the claims of Q and their followers are absolutely, incredibly, fantastically farcical and no one in their right mind would believe them! 😂🤪🤥

If you are on the fence about listening to this podcast then just do it! It is superb and very thought provoking!

Who is Q?

An interesting and thoughtful podcast that sheds some light on this most perplexing of phenomena ... the propagation of a cult in plain sight, facilitated and ably assisted by the social media platforms we all subscribe to.
I would steer people in the direction of 'The Storm is Upon Us' by Mike Rothschild to fill in some of the gaps that are here but, overall, this is a really well produced and entertaining overview of the QAnon conspiracy umbrella (simply because it involves rolling EVERY conspiracy theory into one!) ... highly recommended if only for the testimony of a former disciple of Q ...

Gripping

Haven't got as much out of a podcast since the first series of Serial. I think the only thing that could have been explored more is the relationship with wider support for Trump.
