Jack Thorne, writer for stage and screen, in conversation with Birkbeck playwright David Eldridge.

Jack Thorne is one of the key dramatists of his generation writing for theatre, television, and cinema. He is prolific and his work ranges from the West End and Broadway megahit Harry Potter and the Cursed ChildNational Treasure (Channel 4 starring Julie Walters and Robbie Coltrane) to his recent feature film The Aeronauts starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones. In this conversation with dramatist and lecturer in creative writing, David Eldridge, Jack will reflect on his varied and inspiring career, his writing practice across differing dramatic forms and the problems and possibilities dramatists must face and embrace post-pandemic. 
 
Thorne was born in Bristol in 1978. He began his TV career writing on Shameless and Skins and has since won five BAFTA awards: for This is England ’88, for The Fades, for Don't Take My Baby, for This is England ’90 and for National Treasure. Thorne's feature film credits include The Scouting Book for Boys, War Book and The Aeronauts and his work for theatre includes Hope, Woyzeck and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child which won the Olivier Award for Best New Play in 2017 and the 2018 Tony Award for Best Play.
