The Pretty Reckless Sets New Mark for Women Atop Mainstream Rock Songs Chart With ‘Death by Rock and Roll’
The band's fifth No. 1 is the most for any woman-led act in the chart's history.
The Pretty Reckless hits a new high for No. 1s by women on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart, as “Death By Rock and Roll” rises 2-1 on the tally dated Aug. 1.
The Taylor Momsen-led act adds its fifth No. 1 and first since “Take Me Down,” which ruled for two weeks in November 2016. The group first led with its debut entry “Heaven Knows” for five weeks in 2014.
With five leaders, the band has the most No. 1s on the chart, which began in 1981, by a woman or an act fronted by a woman. It breaks out of a tie with the Lzzy Hale-helmed Halestorm, which boasts four (in 2013-18).
Concurrently, “Death By Rock and Roll” jumps 11-8 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock Airplay chart with 3.6 million audience impressions, up 3%, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. It’s the band’s highest-charting single on the survey, exceeding the No. 10 peak of “Heaven Knows.”
Along with its mainstream rock base, the rock radio audience for the group’s current hit is aided by budding alternative format airplay.
“Death By Rock and Roll” is the lead single from The Pretty Reckless’ upcoming album of the same name, its fourth overall and first since 2016’s Who You Selling For. A release date for the new LP has not yet been announced but it is expected in 2020.
