Welcome to First Beat, a compilation of the best new hip-hop and R&B songs, videos and albums that dropped this week by emerging artists.
This week, Jessie Reyez, Flipp Dinero and Pardison Fontaine lead the way for our first installment of First Beat. While Reyez and Dinero set the table for their forthcoming releases with their respective singles, Fontaine steps up to the plate and arrives with his first full-length project. Check out their latest releases below.
Jessie Reyez, “Crazy”
Reyez has kept fans enthralled with her one-off singles this year, most notably “Far Away” and “Imported” featuring 6LACK. After being named the latest addition to Apple Music’s Up Next program, Reyez dishes out her new record, “Crazy,” a song anchored by heartbreak and disappointment. Reyez’s remake of Patsy Cline’s 1961 country hit “Crazy” oozes with soul, courtesy of the Canadian singer’s honeyed vocals.
Flipp Dinero, “How I Move” Feat. Lil Baby
Trending on Billboard
Last year, Flipp Dinero made waves when he collected his first Billboard Hot 100 hit, “Leave Me Alone.” With his mixtape Love For Guala on the horizon, the Brooklyn native enlists Lil Baby for the flute-driven “How I Move.” Led by Dinero’s entrancing melodies, the hard-hitting anthem finds Dinero and Baby seeking respect on what is likely to be another chart hit.
Pardison Fontaine, Under8ed
Like Dinero, Pardison Fontaine also found success on the Hot 100 when he paired up with Cardi B in 2018, for their club banger “Backin’ It Up.” Today (Nov. 15), he releases his first official project under Atlantic Records with Under8ed. The 14-track mixtape includes features from Offset, Jeremih, and City Girls. Pardi’s wit and comedic chops shine brightest when he shifts his attention towards the ladies on tracks such as “Pay Ya Bills” and “Peach.”
