The next in a series of listening sessions on hours of service reform hosted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Washington, D.C. This session coincides with the final day to submit comments on the agency’s advanced notice of proposed rulemaking, the vehicle by which FMCSA is accepting public comments on the potential hours of service reforms.

The listening session will be held at U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters – 1200 New Jersey Ave. SE – from 1-3 p.m. EDT. The session will also be webcast on FMCSA’s website for those not able to attend in person.

The listening sessions are intended to gather feedback from trucking industry stakeholders and the public about potential reforms to hours regulations. The chief points FMCSA is seeking feedback on are the 30-minute break required by current hours of service rules and allowing 14-hour rule flexibility via split-sleeper berth options or an extension of the 14-hour clock when adverse conditions arise. The agency is also evaluating whether to extend short-haul drivers’ daily on-duty time from 12 hours to 14 hours.

Comments on the ANPRM can be filed here through next Wednesday, Oct. 10. So far, nearly 4,000 comments have been filed.
