Signatures for Life Campaign

16 October 2019

We want NZ to be a place where people who need it can access life saving medications. Currently funding for medications in New Zealand is too low, meaning many people miss out.

Click here to help us in our campaign to increase funding for medications by signing this petition.

How you can help

This is a unique opportunity to increase access to life saving treatments. It's important we get as many signatures as possible so we can send a powerful message to the Government ahead of the election year. This is our opportunity to be heard and we need to make it count! Here's how you can help.

As well as signing the petition, you can help by getting at least 50 signatures to support the petition. Supporting this petition is critically important to our CF community gaining access to the best equipment and medicines, such as nebulisers, portable oxygen concentrators, Tobi Podhalers, liver medicines, diabetes equipment and medicines, as well as game changing modern medicines such as Kalydeco, Orkambi and the new triple combination therapies for those with one or two copies of DF508 which are due out in 2020.

As a community, just 50 signatures per family will translate to an impressive 25,000 signatures which together with signatures from other charities and concerned New Zealanders will send a powerful message.

The faster we can increase the petition numbers, the more media attention and media opportunities we'll have to raise the profile of this issue with the wider New Zealand public.

Subject: Please sign to help [name e.g. Flynn] and New Zealanders with cystic fibrosis

Dear [xxxxx],

As you know my [friend/son/daughter/husband], [Name e.g. Flynn] has cystic fibrosis. He/She is one of thousands of New Zealanders who can’t access the medicines they need. Please help [name e.g. Flynn] and many other Kiwi’s by signing the petition to double the medicine budget in NZ.

Do you know that:

  • NZ has worst access to medicines in the OECD
  • Over 100+ medicines are on the waiting list
  • Over 250,000+ Kiwis are waiting for medicines
  • Every $1 spent on modern medicines saves the health system between $3 - $10 in hospitalisations depending on the condition
  • Some high priority medicines have been waiting for almost 6 years to be funded, and others not deemed high priority have been waiting for almost 14 years.
  • This means that many New Zealanders are not receiving modern medicine.

If you’re interested, further information about NZ medicine access and how it compares internationally can be found in the latest NZ Medicines Landscape report here.

We need to double the medicines budget so more Kiwis can access life changing and life-saving medicines

Please sign this petition to help effect change; New Zealanders should not have to miss out on life changing treatments.

N.B. Anyone can sign online – signatures from people overseas and children all count so please share this information with friends, family and colleagues and help NZ get the medicine access we all deserve – the right medicines at the right time.

Thanks so much in advance.

What about the Kalydeco for Kiwis Petition?

CFNZ remains very supportive of the Kalydeco for Kiwis (K4K) campaign and the decision to focus efforts on the double the Pharmac budget petition has the support of Eddie and Emma Porter who continue to lead the very successful K4K campaign. Doubling the Pharmac medicine budget is an important component in helping to get Kalydeco funded as Pharmac needs more money to fund new drugs.
