The Opening Ceremony

-
ET
CEO Helen Clarkson does speech

The Opening Ceremony launches Climate Week NYC each year and is attended by hundreds of world leading politicians, business executives and civil society representatives. They’ll share their global outlook on driving climate action and igniting progress through engaging interviews, discussions and major announcements. The live streamed event is free and open to all.

We have entered the age of urgency. For the first time, in 2023 the world broke through the annual average of 1.5 degree C temperature rise. The year was marked by droughts, flooding, wildfires and heatwaves, and sea temperatures rising off the charts.  It’s Time to lead. It’s Time to act. It’s Time to deliver. Those who fail to act now risk being left behind financially and reputationally. Every business decision, every policy thought, every risk assessment now needs to have integrated climate action at its core. 2024 can be the year the scales of the energy transition will tip decisively towards renewable energy – but we need to keep pushing to get to that point.

Climate Week NYC 2024’s theme of It’s Time highlights the urgent need for progress, to triple renewable capacity and double energy efficiency. We need to accelerate scalable innovation in energy storage, grid infrastructure, low carbon steel and concrete production, and in finance. At the Opening Ceremony, climate leaders will come together to discuss their plans and the steps taken to meet this moment and accelerate progress on global climate action goals.

Stay tuned for speaker announcements and more as we get closer to the event.
