The name Megan Moroney may not ring a bell to some, but the fast-rising star is the singer-songwriter behind the viral track, "Tennessee Orange." 

The country newcomer dropped the football-inspired love song just in time for tailgate season. The hit she penned alongside Ben Williams, David Fanning, and Paul Jenkins propelled her into the spotlight and secured a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 list. 

"Tennessee Orange" raked in 4.9 million U.S. streams, and the catchy chorus has been used in 37K clips on TikTok alone. The vocalist recently told PEOPLE that she was surprised by the rapid success. 

"I don't think I realized how special the song would be. It was one of those things where I'd worked on for so long, and I didn't know if it was good or not," shared the promising new artist. "Then we decided last minute when we got the opportunity from Spotify to put it out, and it's crazy. I'm new to all of this. But I'm like, this is cool."

The ballad conveys a modern-day "Romeo and Juliet"' narrative, as it is about a girl head over heels for a boy from a rival school. The storyline is centered explicitly around a Georgia Bulldog fan falling in love with a University of Tennessee student. 

"I met somebody and he's got blue eyes | He opens the door and he don't make me cry | He ain't from where we're from, but he feels like home | Yeah, he's got me doin' things I've never done," sings Moroney. "In Georgia, they'd call it a sin | I'm wearin' Tennessee orange for him." 

Moroney pulled from real-life experience to pen the relatable lyrics. The breakout star graduated from the University of Georgia and since the release, country music fans have speculated that the blue-eyed mystery man is Morgan Wallen.  

Moroney has yet to confirm the rumors and will be keeping the blue-eyed heartthrob tight-lipped. 

"I always say I cannot confirm or deny who the song is about," the songstress shared with the outlet. "And I don't think I'll ever tell anyone who the song is about because I told the story in the song. So that would be giving it away too much!"

The chart-topping track came on the heels of her debut EP "Pistol Made of Roses." The six-song collection served as an introduction and shares who Moroney is at her very core – a musical risktaker with powerhouse pipes. 

Although the vocalist is new to the scene, Sugarland's Kristian Bush stepped in to produce "Tennessee Orange." The way Bush placed his award-winning touch into the track, turned the melody into a "waltz"-worthy song. 

"When you hear it, you just want to fall into it," she explained. "I love how TikTok, it's become a trend because people make my story their own. They substitute teams and colors and all the things! It's just cool to see what kind of reach this song about me and SEC [NCAA Southeastern Conference] football has. That's what music does."

The country mainstay ensured her new fan base, that she would always write "from the heart."
