On Wednesday, the Central team of the Department of Archeology reached to inspect another 1000-year-old temple found in the Mahakal temple premises. The team includes Superintendent Archaeologist Piyush Bhatt of Archaeological Survey of India, Bhopal and KK Verma in charge of Khajuraho Archaeological Museum.
After preliminary inspection, Dr Bhatt said that by looking at the texture and carving of ancient relics, this temple looks like of tenth and eleventh century. He told that this will reveal the new history associated with Ujjain and Mahakal.
Many such things can be revealed from the temple found in Ujjain, which will reveal the historical significance of the Mahakal temple and the entire region. Right now the team of experts is closely monitoring everything in the temple premises. Efforts are being made not to harm the heritage of any archaeological importance.
Bhatt said, at this moment we cannot say where the ancient wall and temple is. We have just done a preliminary inspection.Experts told, the temple committee and the administration have to decide further, the archaeological heritage will be preserved.
Significantly, the ancient remnants of the Paramara carpet have been found in the Mahakaleshwar temple premise. According to the experts, this is the foundation (preservation) of a temple of Parmar period.
