About this event

During the coronavirus pandemic, many of us have had time to come to know our nearest green spaces and neighbouring countryside ever more closely. We’ve been reminded of the regenerative power of that green connection – proving again that time in nature is essential for our health and wellbeing. Without it, we’re a lesser version of ourselves.

People need nature. Lockdown has forcefully demonstrated that we must never take the countryside next door to us for granted. As the government starts to make choices about how it will support the country and the economy’s recovery, we need to make sure that the ‘new normal’ is one that makes us more resilient against future adversity – be it a climate, financial or health emergency. The approach we take in doing this will shape our countryside and its communities for centuries to come.

We don’t need to choose between people, environment or the economy: we have the ability to create a society in which they each support one another.

Join us at the launch of CPRE, the countryside charity's regeneration manifesto to discuss how we believe the government should help us regenerate ourselves, regenerate our green spaces and regenerate our rural economies. And in the longer-term, how we can build back better.

The event will be chaired by Kate Green, Deputy Editor of Country Life, and the confirmed speakers are as follows:

  • Rt Hon Philip Dunne MP, Chair of the Environmental Audit Committee
  • Mike Amesbury MP, Shadow Housing and Planning Minister
  • Caroline Lucas MP, Former Leader of the Green Party
  • Rhiane Fatinikun, Founder, Black Girls Hike
  • Crispin Truman OBE, Chief Executive, CPRE The countryside charity

A copy of CPRE's regeneration manifesto, an agenda and joining instructions will be shared in advance of the event. There will be an opportunity to ask questions live and on the day.
