About this event

PLEASE NOTE: This session is for PHE employees.

If you work in a Local Authority Public Health Team please visit https://phelibrary.koha-ptfs.co.uk/laph/ for information on services available for you.

PHE Knowledge and Library Services invite you to explore what makes fake news so compelling by joining us to play the role of a fake news-monger. See how many followers you can hook whilst staying credible, and simultaneously gain insight into how and why fake news attracts believers.

We will play online 'serious game' Bad News to explore this genre followed by an informal discussion about how to spot suspect information and challenge fake news you encounter in your social life.

Compete in teams (gather your own group, or join in with colleagues and perfect strangers), or play on your own.

Become the scariest, most ill-informed influencer in PHE! Highest score will be awarded the FABULIST* certificate for dubious achievement.

[NB: Bad News is an online game played in the browser, and does not post to social media accounts. Game activity is not saved. There is an option to complete a before and after questionnaire which is used for research into media literacy by the Cambridge Social Decision-Making Lab at Cambridge University.]
