Course description

The Dimensional Measurement Applier course provides knowledge and expertise in the application of measurement. It will encourage a planning culture, enabling organisations to save time and money through the implementation of best measurement practice.

Over four days, this classroom-based training course builds on the knowledge and skills acquired from the Dimensional Measurement User course. Learners will be instructed on:

  • Geometrical product specification (GPS)
  • Measurement principles and methods
  • Process control
  • Measurement principles and methods
  • Co-ordinate principles.

This course combines written and practical exercises with sessions on fundamental calculations, verifying dimensions and tolerances, as well as plotting variation.

Learning outcomes:

  • Apply the fundamental principles of geometrical product specification and measurement tools.
  • Understand the fundamental principles of calibration.
  • Apply fundamental measurement calculations.
  • Respond to measurement results and related uncertainty.
  • Communicate, question and plan the measurement process.
  • Give context to the importance of the learner’s current job role.

Who is it for

For those needing more advanced principles and methods including: measurement technicians; measurement equipment handlers; design staff; process planners; manufacturing engineering personnel; production supervisors and managers; quality control and inspection staff.

Location: Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME)
