Strength

Rate this book
There’s a girl asleep by my bed. Her name’s Sophie and she’s the love of my life.
She doesn’t know that. I’ve never told her, nor given her any clues. I’ve been careful. I’ve been diligent. I’ve been the biggest asshole the world has seen.
To her. And to everyone.
But after I fell sick, she came back and she’s still here. I don’t know why, if it means anything, what she wants from me.
I know I want everything from her but I can’t ask for it.
Because I fucked up, I’m probably dying, and it’s too late for second chances… right?

This short novel is a standalone story in the Wild Men world (companion to Dark Child), and will release in October as part of the Cards of Love 2018 series.

The Strength card is part of the major Arcana.

There is something about this one. At the start Griffin is so desolate, you get a bit of why, but as the book goes on you get more of the why. Sophie, on the other hand is very up and just there for Griffin, you really want her to get through to him. So much of the book is a half-step forward and 3 steps back. I so wanted Griffin to see what was right in front of his face, there for him to take, if only he would hope. When that finally happens you can’t help but to smile and know that for these two all the bad is behind them.

Strength by Jo Raven

What an emotional, heartbreaking story. Where do I begin to tell you how fantastic this book is. This book is Griffin and Sophies story. You will remember both of this characters being mentions in Dark Child Mercury & Cosima story. Considering Cosima and Sophie are twin sisters.

Griffin and Sophie’s story will pull at your heart, it is emotionally raw. The tragedy and pain that Griff deals with not only from the Cancer but also from the scars on his body. Griffin is struggling to deal with cancer, and doesn’t want to believe he is going to make it. Sophie is there for him and will not let him give up as she nurses him back to health.

Griffin and Sophie don’t and haven’t had the easiest of relationships and you are in for one bumpy ride with them while they try to work out the past and present relationship troubles.

Well done Jo with what I believe to be another successful book. It was well written and you can see that a lot of work went into it to give the authenticity of Griffin’s illness and treatment.

I’ve loved all of Jo’s books, but this one has to be my absolute favourite. This author’s forte seems to be damaged men. Men who have sordid pasts, rollercoaster emotions and hardship... and she nails it every time.

My emotions went haywire through this book, along with the characters. I found it very intense, sad and full of anguish and despair. There are so many swirling emotions that by the time your finish the book, you’re breathless. She has written Griffin to perfection, along with Sophie. But I wasn’t keen on her sister. I understand the process of protecting family, but she was a cold-hearted cow. Especially with Griff’s illness; she still kind of went at him and I really didn’t like that.

Sophie is the sweetest character I’ve read in a while, a strong minded, hard-headed and caring woman who barely leaves Griff’s side. And on top of that, she took on so much responsibility concerning him and she fought tooth and nail for his love. I loved her tenacity, it’s mind blowing and heroic.

The writing style itself is extremely impressive, gripping and really does make you FEEL the emotions these characters are experiencing. I felt part of it, like a fly on the wall. It was incredibly portrayed, thought out and executed that I feel I’m in a book hangover from hell.

Bravo, Mrs Raven. This book was extraordinary!

Oh wow! This was another amazing book by one of my favorite authors. Jo Raven has a talent for writing that is so unique. No other author I have read, tortures their heroes like she does. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to watch a character suffer and be able to do nothing but read faster to get to the HEA. Jo raven writes from the heart and amazes me constantly.

If you've read Dark Child then you know of Griffin and Sophie. And while you do not have to read that book prior to Strength, I recommend you do because there are quite a few mentions that might make the book even more enjoyable for you.

Griffin is going through dark times. Not only does he suffer from PTSD, there is an issue with his health. My heart broke for this man over and over. In addition to his self-loathing, Griffin believes himself unworthy of Sophie's love. Sophie was an amazing, strong character. She was just what Griff needed to help him heal. Sophie would teach this tortured man how to love as well.

I can go on but that would mean I'd have to give you details and since I refuse to ruin this book for you, you will have to read it on your own. I promise if you are already a fan of Jo's, she won't let you down. And if you haven't read anything by her yet, I absolutely recommend that you do!

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)

Strength by Jo Raven is an emotionally gripping and powerfully heartbreaking story. This is Griffin and Sophies love story. You will remember both of these characters being introduced back in "Dark Child" which was Mercury & Cosima love story. In case you don't remember, Cosima and Sophie are twin sisters.
Strength is part of the Wild Men and the Cards of Love series. Griffin and Sophie's love story is very heavy and tons serious. It's light on optimistism and always has the undercurrent theme of Griffith's illness looming over relationship. Not to mention all their misunderstandings and trouble that they have with communicating. Their love story will pull at your heart, for it's so emotionally raw. This story goes through the rollercoaster of emotions of what they experience: their pain, joys, passion, angst, and experiencing what true love really means. This book is so emotional and angsty and unique. You want to bring tissues because it will have you in tears. I was reading and experiencing the feels along with Sophie and Griffin as they went along their journey. This is one journey you don't want to miss!!!!

Griffin <3 Oh how I loathed that he would get a story, I mean, in previous books he appeared like THE ahole and I hated him, but then. Then this beautifully talented author came and gave his story a sick and tortured twist and I fell in love with him. So much that I was in a major reading funk after I finished this book. MAJOR, I tell you!
While reading Griffin and Sophie were quickly becoming one of my favorite couples of this author. I know she had a lot of roadblocks while writing this book and I have to say, I loved how it turned out! You don’t notice a thing and the longer waiting period was so WORTH IT!
This book can be read as a total standalone, but I highly recommend reading “Dark Child” before this one, so you get the first impression of Sophie and Griff and can learn about them from other people’s view.
The writing style was easy to read and sucked me right into the story. It wasn’t fancy, but with this raw honesty I came to like and expect from Jo Raven. She really did a good thing here and I hope you will pick up this book.

I received this book for an honest review. Jo Raven is a first time author for me, and she has done an amazing job with this story which is part of the Cards of Love Series . The characters of Griffin and Sophie will pull at your heart, it was emotional, raw and loving all at the same time. Griff is trying to endure his battle with cancer as well as come to terms with the scars the war has left him, only Sophie is there for him and will not let him give up as she nurses him back to health as she has always loved him and now has to show him that he can overcome everything to be a whole person and have love. Strength will pull you in from beginning to end and I highly recommend this book. This is one book that should not be missed, you will love it.

Jo is one of my favourite authors and I love all of her books! I've wanted to read this since I read Dark Child because I wanted to read why Sophie was so committed to helping Griffin recover.
This is a love story that is so tragically heartbreaking and will pull at your heart strings, both Sophie and Griffin love each other but he's being stubborn and she's too busy trying to nurse him to health to admit their feelings.
Well done Jo for writing such a gripping story while under so much pressure!

I have loved every single book I have read from this author.
Griffin is a damaged soul and when him and Sophie get together it is like their souls are settled but like all love stories it is not all sunshine and Rose's, and her sister doesn't help things.
I love how Jo Raven writes because you live these stories, you feel their emotions like they are your own and it makes the book that much more enjoyable

I really liked this book. Strength is a book you will definitely remember.

Sophia never lost hope when it came to Griffin. Poor Griffin is fighting for his life due to cancer. Sophie is not giving up,so she invites him to live with her. The attraction is so strong, but Griff doesn't want her to know. I was happy with the ending. I was super nervous about it.

Everyone has different tastes with books.
This one for me personally could have used a little more excitement.
I kind of figured out the outcome about half way in. And cause of that it took me quite a bit to get thru.

Awesome story of strength and never giving up. Griffin has been to hell is working on living through another form or it. While Sophie has come back into his life and wants nothing more than to help him. Griffin isn't sure if he can let her, he has never let anyone help him or trusted anyone enough to let them see his true self. Sophie will never give up on him, she will continue to show him she is there for him and she will never leave again.

What an emotional read. It was so beautifully written that I felt like I was the fly on the wall watching it all unfold.
Sophie and Griffin are tortured characters, both have feelings for the other - but neither have ever shown them. She's determined to save him and...he can't make plans...

Know what i did at the end of this book? I phewwwww'd i phewwww'd hard!! Thank goodness Ms Raven did not torture Griffin too bad. That poor fella deserved a break!!

We saw a glimpse of these two in Cosima and Merc's story and i honestly feared for Griff. We all know the queen of boy torture can be very mean to our hero's, and although he took some it wasn't too bad lol

Sophie is head over heels for Griff but she can't read him very well. They have a past that didn't turn out so well and Sophie is wary of saying or doing anything with Griff in fear of him running away.

Griff is forced to accept Sophies help. He has no friends or family to help him out and now more than ever he needs a friend. He's undergoing cancer treatment and although it hurts his pride he moves in with Sophie so he can fight it. He still has feelings for Sophie but after what happened before he is determined to hang on to his anger at her for the way things ended before.

The more time they spend together the more Sophie starts opening up to Griff and him to her. It's like walking on eggshells for Sophie but she's determined to know him. She wants to know everything about him, so they begin the journey of fighting cancer and fighting for each other.

Awwww poor Griff, my heart broke for him. He truly felt alone and i hated that for him. He had a whole bunch of baggage but i loved how Sophie fronted out his anger and broke him down. I'm sure anyone else would have left him to it but she never gave up and i loved that about her. They were both strong in their own way and by the end i had a little "whoop" moment for them i was so happy.

Loved this addition to this series. Great to see another happy couple to add to the family.

It's been a while since I've read a book from this lady and let me tell you that I missed her so freaking much.
I had read a bunch of books from other authors but there are the ones that touched my heart and it's a joy to get the chance to read some new book.
I know of that this must sound like I'm being silly but I'm not.
Jo Raven is an amazing author and her books are to die for. Oh boy... The stuff she writes about will knock you down. Trust me. Her writing is hot, intense steamy, wild... You name it. Just have an open mind...
Strength is her latest release and tells the stories of Griff and Sophie.
Oh boy... Since the moment I ended Dark Child I knew that I needed more from these two... So I advise you to read that book first...
Griff had the worst life, filled with hurt, sorrow and a traumatic event that changed him forever.
How can a person so broken, give himself to another? How can he?
Sophie left her life behind to be able to take care of Griffin but that's not an easy task. She needed her twin sister's help so she took it. But now, that she's happy with her boyfriend, Sophie knows that she needs to move on with her life helping Griffin but...
One word... Just one word... Intense...
This book was everything I was looking for. So perfect. So good.
Superb plot, very engaging, super intense and heartfelt.
Each chapter nailed it to perfection and made me want to read it non stop.
There were parts of the book that I wanted to slap someone so hard due to their stuborness but there were others that I wanted to hold then and promise better days. I'm so glad for the chance to read it and you will to.
Jo Raven... You're forgiven. Lol. It was worth all the waiting I endured. I want more... Please. More. Now.

This has probably been my favorite out of all Jo Raven’s books and yes, I have read them all!

This book was such an emotional read and really allowed you to take the journey with the character. We got a small glimpse of the characters in this book ( Sophie and Griffen) in another book Jo wrote about Merc & Cos (Sophie’s twin sister) called Dark Child.

Sophie and Griffen has been a couple for a short while when things fell apart for the couple. After some twists and turns Sophie shows up at Griffen’s door step to try to mend the broken bridges between them but learns a heart breaking truth. Not only does she need to win Griffen’s heart back but she has to stand by while he fights for his life becoming a shell of his former self.

Griffen lacks communication skills when it comes to Sophie everything he does or says seems to cause another hurdle for them. Now she is determined to be back in his life no matter what he says or does. While he fights for his life he is fighting to keep Sophie at a distance. But when it comes to matters of the heart things don’t always go as planned. With the possibility of death looming over this couple is rekindling the flames really worth the risk of a broken heart?

This book is absolutely a must read for anyone even if you haven’t read any other Jo Ravens books you can read this one. It made me laugh, cry and even smile which makes this a fantastic book in my opinion. I wish I could write even longer review but I don’t want to give out any spoilers! This is a A+++++ read for my 2019 book log!

I knew the moment I started reading this book I was going to love it! And I absolutely did.

Griffen, he is as hard as they come. He doesnt show emotions, well anger for sure. But he doesn’t believe he deserves love and anything that comes along with that love. As sick as he is fighting for his life, you would think he would admit to his feelings for Sophie. But no, hard ass comes with his flaws and all his doubts and insecurities. He thinks he doesn’t deserve love and oh how wrong he is, he will find out soon enough.

Sophie, the sweet girl who loves Griffen unconditionally. She doesn’t see flaws or insecurities or undeserved love or an undeserving person, no she sees him. She sees who is under all that bs. Her feelings for him run deep and they go back a long time. While he recovers she is by his side day in and day out.

Griffen and Sophie a complicated relationship full of doubts and lack of communication. But once they start to communicate, once they realize how foolish they have been, sparks fly and the end result is everything I hoped for. I really loved this book. I hope you read their story and they better be more!!! Lol.

Get lost in this book tonight :)

Oh how I’ve missed Jo’s writing!!!! This book was EVERYTHING!!!

I was desperate to know more about Griff and Sophie and this odd relationship they had. We only saw small glimpses from Cos’ POV, and it wasn’t always the best. I knew there just had to be a reason that Sophie kept him around and constantly helped him. It was so clear that she loved him, but we didn’t know much else.

The amount of shit that Griff has gone through in his life is horrific. This poor man is just so broken. To see him broken and see how he feels, it is just heart breaking. The amount of communication between him and Sophie was so little too! There were so many times where I wish I could have shaken them and just yelled “TALK ALREADY!”

Jo worked this piece so beautifully. We got just the right amount of everything and we had every questioned answered. Her writing is just so amazing. I cannot wait for more from her ❤️

Strength by Jo Raven is another wonderful read by this fantastic author. I can't express how much I love her books and she's one of my very few one-click authors.
Strength is part of the Wild Men and the Cards of Love series.
This is Griff and Sophie's story. I already met Sophie in Merc's book and I wanted to learn more about here the whole time. And now - Yay - here is her story.
Griffin is an man whom was dealt bad cards in his life. He's ex-military, is very sick and is in love with Sophie for a long time. He has to undergo severe procedures to get better and he longs for Sophie. But she's strictly off limits.
Sophie is happy that her twin, Cosima found her HEA with Merc. But she is unhappy in love with Griff since forever, but the depressed man is clueless.
Both ahve a lot of issues to work through, but love conquers. Strength is a raw and gritty read, a heart-wrenching pageturner that gave me all the feels. I give 5 wonderful stars.

This book! It has everything we love from a Jo Raven book. Angst, the broken hero, the strong women who will show that she accepts our hero as he is and will help him in what ever way she can. Ahh I just love the way Jo writes! Her words are captivating and her storyline’s are intriguing. I can’t get enough!

Griffin is going through something quite horrible. He is down, he is mad at the world, but gosh he is a sweetheart. I just love him in all his brooding.
Sophie is such a strong heroine. She knows the road will be a hard one but no matter what she is there when Griffin needs her.

These two are just so beautiful. This story made my heart break in certain parts but it was mended again with all the love I could feel throughout the story. This book is short but it definitely lacks the Jo Raven punch. I just loved reading this book!

Injured ex-millitary Griffin Lambert was fighing cancer alone ... that is, until the beautiful Sophie came back into his life and moved him into her apartment. There is only one thing Griffin wants ... to love Sophie. But Griffin doesn't know how to do that. Nor does he deserve her. College student Sophie Parker has loved the handsome Griffin from afar since high school and wants a second chance with him. Sophie made some mistakes and Griffin deserves better than her but that's not going to stop her from fighting for them and showing Griffin that he wants her. But with Griffin fighting cancer and being told by people in Sophie's life that he doesn't deserve her, will Griffin and Sophie get their HEA together?

Strength is an emotional, angsty and steamy story that will have you rooting for the hero and heroine to be together despite the odds.

I enjoyed getting to know Griffin and Sophie in Strength.
This title Strength was a perfect fit was this book. Griffin needed Strength to fight his PTSD he needed strength to fight his cancer and he needed strength not to alienate Sophie due to his fears of abandonment and then there’s Sophie she needed strength not to cower and let Griffin push her away, they needed each other more than they each realised which made it an emotional read.
I was rooting throughout for Griffin to overcome his illness and I honestly didn’t think he’d make it, as we all know Jo Raven writes about great tortured souls and this book was another show of that
So happy they got their well deserved HEA
Once Merc and Cosima were introduced to the storyline I would have loved to see them coming round few times when Soph was at work helping out a bit, to be the caring loving couple I see them being.

I really enjoy Jo Ravens stories and Strength was no different. It’s a quick read about a man who was broken by war and then by illness. He has the love of a women that didn’t always understand his broken self but when she comes back for him, and cares for him, he sees that she really does understand him and she loves him!!! With no control over their future, they can only enjoy the time they have been given and hope for more!! This story pains me when you see how tough it is to be sick and have to rely on another to care for you. The inner struggles and emotions that one has to face when unsure of if they will have a future is heartbreaking. I truly enjoyed these characters and their story!!!

The long awaited for story of Griff and Sophie has finally arrived. And it doea not disappoint! The emotion and the journey these two travel is inspiring and I felt every fear and terror like it was my own. The love was obvious for anyone to see. Even under that angry, protective exterior Griffin showed the world. The sweet Sophie, realising her past mistakes will stop at nothing to stick by the man she loves during his battle against cancer, whether he wants her there or not. It's a beautiful story of second chances. Healing. And a love that can conquer it all. Maybe even death. Well done Miss Raven! This short read had it all and deserve five stars, or more if I could ❤

An emotional journey that I felt right down to my bones. I cried, I got chills and I had to take a few breaks to collect myself. Griffin is by far one of the most complex men I have read about lately. He only wants to know what love is like but he never had it growing up and doesn't know how to show it either. Sophie fell for Griffin right from the start and she never stopped loving him. She didn't understand why he treated her the way he did, and it broke her. Watching these two travel the road to healing and a future was truly a rolloercoaster of emotion. Sophie and Griffin had so much to work through and it was done beautifully!

Well Jo is back!! It’s great to read books about tortured sexy guys!

This book was the whole package, the tragedy and heartache that Griff went through, there was so much detail on his illness and treatment, it was certainly well thought out.

It was great to see Sophie’s story after meeting her in Mercs story Dark Child and only getting little bits of her and Griffins story.

It was nice to see them have a happy ever after and for Griff and Soph be in the light together.

Jo Ravens books always leave me wanting more. I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next.

Strength by name strength is what Griffin Lambert and Sophie Parker's story is all about. This is a emotionally tortured story about a man who believes that he is unable to feel worthy of love or know how to show emotions. Sophie has always had a crush on Griffin since he was the gardener at the family home.Years pass by and when Griff returns Sophie finds that her feelings have never changed. This is a heartbreaking story filled with emotions of hurt, betrayal, and plenty of tears. A well written story that will have you captivated and wanting more. A must read enjoy.
