Rachel Ford-Talbot has nothing to do with her family or their pharmaceutical business. And she likes it that way. As one of four partners who own an internationally renowned security business, Rachel prefers to leave her past, with all its secrets, deeply buried.

But when a series of thefts reveal that the family business is being targeted for industrial espionage, her father begs Rachel to investigate. His illness makes it hard for her to refuse, but Rachel wonders if he truly understands what he’s unleashing on his company. Because she isn’t the same bright-eyed graduate that walked through their doors years earlier. Now, she’s strong, powerful, and somewhat terrifying. A woman who doesn’t suffer fools lightly and who is afraid of nothing.

She also isn’t alone.

This time, she has the might and expertise of Benson Security at her back. And an ex-CIA agent at her side—because Michael “Harvard” Carter has appointed himself her bodyguard for the duration. Even though Rachel doesn’t need, or want, the annoyingly sexy man’s help. But while the world sees a first-class bitch when they look at her, Michael sees only someone who intrigues him. Which makes him the biggest threat of all.

Janet grew up in Scotland but now lives in New Zealand. Among other things, she’s been an artist, a teacher, a security guard at a castle, a magazine editor, and a cleaner in a drop in center for drug addicts (NOT the best job!). When she isn’t living in her head and writing about the people she finds there, she raises two kids, one husband, and several random animals. She survives on chocolate and caffeine.

Rich
By: Janet Elizabeth Henderson

REVIEW ☆☆☆☆
Janet Elizabeth Henderson is new to me, and I'm surprised I haven't read any of her work already. Rich is an engaging read with a memorable heroine. Rachel is one of the strongest female leads I have read lately. She's got the fierce fearless attitude that is necessary to hold your own, which she does, and that is admirable. It's not easy to help your family when distance is a much better option, but Rachel does. She also had a bit of romance but not overly so. The story touches on serious issues, and the author uses these to strengthen Rachel. Otherwise, this is a fast, entertaining and thrilling read with a whodunit that I didn't figure out. I wouldn't call this a romcom but it's in the same arena, just more action and suspense. I think fans of this author will be happy to read Rich, and if you've never read her, definitely give it a try.

Fast-paced whodunnit romantic comedy that hooks you from go.

This book starts out in a flashback revealing that the female lead was raped and blackmailed ten years prior. That worried me for the tone of the book, because I tend to associate this author with comedy, and starting off with a segment like that was hard to read. However, it set the stage for a book that perfectly walked the balance of respecting a dark topic while liberally adding comedy, a fierce heroine, a supportive hero, and an engaging storyline.

Trying to figure out who the bad guy was in this one was fun. Every single time a family member was mentioned I got my squinty eyes of distrust. It could be any of them. (Insert glare here.) Of note: At no point did I actually guess the bad guy...until it was too late. (Well done, Janet! This is why I love your books.)

If you’ve read any of Janet’s books from Magenta Mine on, you’ve already met the heroine, Rachel. She’s the tough as nails, Prada-wearing, fear-inducing, manage-the-morons leader of Benson Security, and she is the badass bitch we all want to be. She’s sarcastic. She says what she thinks. She’s intelligent. She’s beautiful. She’s strong. She’s rich. And she’s caught the eye of the handsome Michael “Harvard” Carter.

Harvard is the sexy man we all want to read about. He’s gorgeous. He’s patient. He’s got thick skin. He’s intelligent. He’s ex-CIA. He can give Rachel exactly what she needs. And the muscles on this one. Oooomph. His measured way of approaching Rachel and acting like a grown man instead of a child when she baits him is fun to read. I don’t feel like my description does him justice, but he’s one of my favorite male leads in romance that I’ve ever read. My only drawback was that a couple of times he said something a little too perfect, that I wouldn’t have expected his character to say. But it wasn’t bad, just a couple sentences.

Their chemistry is off the charts, as it should be in a romance novel, right? The way their relationship grows is fast but believable, and it’s not forced at all. The dancing especially. Man a guy who can speak Spanish, dance, cook, and protect you? While being respectful? Rachel- none of us blame you for giving in. You can’t say no to that kind of perfection. They are an interracial couple, and I did like how the author called out that racism is still alive and well instead of ignoring it. (I liked it even more when the racist asshole got what was coming to him.)

The other characters added in are amazing, as usual. We get our Benson Security fix, primarily with colorful Elle and puppy dog/bottomless-stomach Ryan supporting on this one. However, all the other Benson staff made it in eventually (I was afraid we wouldn’t see Megan!) and it was wonderful to see their banter and conversations. Even HARRY made a decent appearance. I didn’t realize how much I’ve missed him til I read this book!

The ending was amazing. I didn’t see it coming, and it kept me guessing til the end. I love that the characters stay true to themselves, too. I hate when a female lead is cheapened to be essentially a supporting character for the male, or she gets weak and whiney. That absolutely didn’t happen here; Rachel started and finished really strong.

I also want to say that how rape is covered in this story is respectful. I think the author did a good job of both showing how people should react (Harvard), showing how some people say the wrong things and then also calling them out on their bullshit (Ryan when he asked why she didn’t file with the police and Elle putting him in his place), and having Rachel’s thoughts expressed that she didn’t want to be seen as a victim or weak. It is a tough topic to bring up- especially in romance- but I thought it was really well done. This book had so much comedy in it- but that never detracted from the seriousness of the rape conversations. I was impressed.

This was so well-written all around. It was worth every minute I spent on it, and I’ll definitely reread it again to catch more clues earlier on next time. Now that I know who to glare at.

Janet Elizabeth Henderson is a master at romantic comedy and this one definitely does not disappoint.

She has secrets, and she has the training to uncover them.

One day, Rachel Ford-Talbot was set on becoming CEO of her families pharmaceutical company. The next she wanted nothing to do with them. And no one knows why. Which is exactly how she wants to keep things.

That's why going undercover to find a thief in her family's business is more dangerous than everyone thinks. Because Rachel knows there are secrets within the company, and in her past, that are best left buried. Secrets that are at risk of being exposed because her partner is a man whose life has been about uncovering information others would rather keep hidden. And for some reason, former CIA agent, Michael "Harvard" Carter, doesn't find Rachel as cold and intimidating as most people. To him shes fascinating. Which could make him the biggest threat of all. Because if Harvard wanted to discover her secrets, there would be no stopping him.

A brilliant plot that keeps you guessing at every point. Masterfully written and deals with a difficult subject in a caring and insightful way.

I could not put it down!

I could not put this book down, I was completely engaged from the beginning. Rachel is a tough sharp-tongued Prada and Louboutin wearing partner in the Benson Security Firm loaded with highly trained ex-military, ex-CIA, and ex-police staff. She is also the daughter of a very wealthy English family. Her family pharmaceuticals business has a serious security breach and only Rachel can help. Unfortunately, she left the business to protect her family 10 years earlier and knows returning has the possibility of stirring up old trouble, but she has no choice. The plan is to bring one of her team members in as her body guard and fiancée...Michael aka Harvard. She likes to pretend indifference, but the chemistry between them is delightful. As the situation at the business escalates, the heat rises between them. As she and her team work to find who is trying to steal data from them, another ugly crime is brought forth from the past. This book kept me guessing to the very end. It is very well written. There are certain aspects to this book that are tough to write about in a book full of laughter and hotness...fanning myself...but Janet Elizabeth Henderson pulled it off beautifully. I think you will enjoy this read.

This book was beyond amazing and truly the best book I have read since Ms. Henderson's last book. Rage had it all from mystery and sexy romance to drama and so much more. I laughed and cried my way through this read and honestly could not stop reading from beginning to end. I have been so looking forward to Rachel's story and learning why she tends to be the bi**ch she is really helped to fill all the missing pieces we learn about her in the other Benson Security books. I felt like I knew her already from the previous books but learning her past really makes you soften a bit towards her and want her to find happiness and someone to love her for who she is. I have to say Michael aka Harvard makes me hope to find someone as kind and patient as he is. There is nobody better to be Rachel's love interest than him. So if you can't tell, I am in love with this book and now will be anxiously awaiting Ryan's and Elle's own stories. Nobody can write a great humorous romantic suspense story like Ms. Henderson. Although you don't have to read the other Benson Security books before reading Rage I highly recommend it, you get to know all the characters that show up in each book and fall in love with them and understand all their crazy quirks better. No matter what this is a must read!!!!

First let me say that if you haven’t read any of Janet Elizabeth Henderson’s books, why not? However, that said, this is a standalone book. I’m sure after you’ve read it you will want to read all of the previous books and find out about all of the characters that are in this book.
When Janet said she was going to tackle doing a book on Rachel, I could not imagine how she could do that fiery alpha female justice. More than my imagining has just come to life. I’ve read this book twice in the past 24 hours. I think it’s time for sleep now. However, before that, I have to mention that I certainly did not think she could outdo her previous books, but she has. She not only tackles one of the worst topics, every woman’s greatest fear but takes you on a thrilling ride dealIng with theft, blackmail and betrayal. Wow! With how Rachel has created and portrayed her thick, acerbic outer shell of protection, who could have predicted that, an intelligent, patient and wise badass ex CIA agent would be her perfect match and have her back all through it. Once again our master storyteller comes through for us. Now here’s the problem. How are you ever going to top that? We’ll done Janet. Well done indeed.

Janet Elizabeth Henderson improves with each book she writes. RICH still has her trademarks: vividly scripted scenes, well developed characters, witty dialogue, sizzling sex scenes and many laugh-out-loud moments. But it is so much more!

Janet takes a very sensitive topic, the rape of a young woman, and shows the world that the shame of the act lies with the perpetrators not the woman. She conveys that this person is a survivor, still strong, still perfect, still loveable.  Janet's delicate handling of the topic does not overshadow the love story nor the humour. The reader is served a plot that evokes a full range of perfectly balanced emotions. A+++ Janet!!

We were introduced to both bitchy Rachel Ford-Tabot and handsome Michael "Harvard" Carter in previous Benson Security books. RICH is their story. Rachel is a strong alpha female with a teflon shield around her feelings and a scathing wit like no other. She does not suffers fools gladly. "Harvard" is 6'6" of muscles and brains, MIT educated, ex CIA, and can see beyond Rachel's blustery exterior. He has the patience and aptitude to handle anything she dishes out!  They are supported by a cast of loveable colleagues and family.

To reach the happy-ever-after there are great laughs,  some tears and a mystery or two to solve.

RICH, Book 4 in the Benson Security series is a mystery and a love story. It's about family, friends and complicated pasts with secrets long buried. A wonderful "RICH" read!! Highly, highly recommend !!

ARC Review.  RICH can be read as a standalone book but is much more fun to read as part of the series!!  "For the love of Prada", read the book!!

What a great, great ride!

Don't let the cover, somehow ordinary, to disarm you! Don't let the blurb disarm you either! (even if it's better than many other blurbs there that say too much). Rich was good entertainment! I liked enough to bypass my daily duties and stay glued to the laptop screen to read it. And I really, really don't like to read PDF books on my laptop!

Anyway, I think that there are very big chances for you to enjoy it too. I mean, what's not to like? Strong heroines but still vulnerable? Heroes better than James Bond? Lovers who fight for their love when it seems that it's unwanted? Or the (permanent) humor that tempers the darker, serious themes and makes them easier to be grasped? Or perhaps the two crazy families, one by blood and one by choice (but who's choice is the pop-up question) who use any occasion to provoke witty, sarcastic much-deserved replies? Maybe the sustained fast-paced rhythm? Or maybe the fact that even if you saw or read before such stories, you don't feel the awkward similarity leaking through the words. Yeah, I didn't think so!

So, don't lose any more time and read it! I want to know if you liked it as much as I do! (or what it's wrong with you, guys!! joking... nope...)

Ice Queen finds her King Consort

I did not expect to adore Rachel Ford-Talbot!!

You discover that part of her past that formed her hard shell.

She's been the icy, cold, snobbish b*tch in the previous books that you could end up hating but there have been glimmers of more.

And I'd be an ice queen too had I woken up with no memory of what happened to me, with nothing but pictures and a threat. Her entire future changed in one night.

And how could she be completely horrid if Harry likes her? There is so much more to her. She knows who everyone thinks she is. But the people who surround her love her anyway because they know her.

And Harvard...Michael Carter...he finds her fascinating and he is determined to not only get to the bottom of the problem her family has tasked them with solving but also finding his way past the wall Rachel has erected around herself.

Rachel has been hiding a huge secret from her family and friends. She's borne this secret mostly alone. She finally realizes this group of people who surround her have her back. And she is not alone.

She went through one of the worst things that can happen to a woman by herself. And that it was done to her with the aid of drugs her own family's company makes made it even worse. And her team (and her family) shows her that she isn't alone anymore. Even when it seems things are at their most dire.

I have loved all of the Invertary and Benson books and this one was no different. But I think I may have loved it even more because Rachel was simply amazing in her strength. And Harvard is the perfect man for her...and the mystery.

I love that there is humor, mystery, passion, friendship, family (both real and by choice), and lots of feels in these books. I love this bookiverse.

I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

5 star review of Rich (Benson Security #5) by Janet Elizabeth Henderson

Janet Elizabeth Henderson is a new author to me and I have no idea why I have not come across her before. This book reeled me in and I was hooked from the first to the last chapter. A slightly dark, romantic comedy with a touch of suspense that ticked the boxes.

Although the book starts off with a confronting scene, it did not set the tone for the book. I will say that the author did a credible job and ensured that it was handled with respect and not sensationalized.

Rachel Ford-Talbot is a tough as nails woman who has overcome a terrifying past to become a partner and leader at Benson Security. She is strong, clever and is not afraid to say it like it is. She also has nothing to do with her family or the family business.

However when her sick father asks for her help, she is drawn back in to investigate along with ex-CIA agent Michael “Harvard” Carter who has decided that he will be her bodyguard.

Harvard is the perfect man for Rachel. He is protective , swoon worthy and most definitely alpha. The chemistry between them burns up the pages with it’s intensity.

Ms. Henderson wrote a strongly written story that kept me guessing until the end and I was definitely surprised. It handled difficult subjects whilst also showcasing comedic moments that had me laughing.

The secondary characters were just as captivating and has whetted my appetite to go back and read the other books in the series as soon as time permits.

I received a free copy from the author in exchange for this impartial review.

What can I say about “Rich” by Janet Elizabeth Henderson? As a huge fan of Henderson’s work, I thought I knew Rachel from previous books, but I found out I really didn’t know her at all. I must admit, I didn’t care for Rachel before “Rich” and now, “Wow!,” I’m so proud of her. Without giving away anything, I don’t know if I could’ve been as strong as Rachel.
With the subject matter tackled in “Rich,” Henderson sensitively, truthfully, and emotionally, explores the fallout from rape/sexual assault while giving us an entertaining romance with suspense, mystery and a touch of comedy. Henderson didn’t skimp on character development of the “hero” Michael (Harvard) Carter and others. I fell more than a little bit in love with Harvard by page 111. Coming from a large extended family myself, Rachel’s family resonated with me and many characters from Henderson’s previous, related, books join in for a “rally the troops” feel. “Rich” is a Benson Security book (#5) but you don’t have to have read her other Benson Security or Invertary books.
The only true criticism I have is Epilogue #1, in that I’m morally and philosophically torn by what transpires. I find myself thinking about this book nearly a week after reading it and applying the what if…, and wondering how I would want justice to be served for myself or one of my loved ones.
The villain or villains (No Spoiler) behind both mysteries, the rape and a corporate thief, were a surprise. I admit I was in tears (of sympathy and anger) at many points in “Rich” and, for the first time, I couldn’t wait to get to the end of one of Henderson’s books, just to find out “whodunit.”
Of course, now I’m missing all the wonderful characters and can’t wait for the next book.

Janet Elizabeth Henderson. For people who haven’t read any of her books, this is a good time to start and I guarantee you will have read them by this time next month.
Now, Rich! (Sighs). See, Rachel is a regular in Benson Security series; I have had to get used to her. Rachel is the kind of woman you love to hate though I doubt anyone could actually get around to doing it. Let’s just say Rachel is a world class bitch who takes immense pride in being one. She is a brutally honest, sarcastic, takes no prisoners, classy and only wears designer labels. She is also rich! Super rich, smart; did I say she only wears high end designers? She has no friends, or so she claims. She doesn’t let anyone get close to her; to probably guard her heart. So when this sexy alpha ex - CIA operative with the patience of the saints saunters into her life, she doesn’t know what to do. Rachel didn’t even see him coming.
Micheal is to die for. He is a security operative whose disposition is so laid back that it hurts. From the surface, there is no way Michael could handle Rachel. But handle her, he did, and so effortlessly that I am also in love with him. He is the perfect balance for Rachel.
The book has a dark theme - I will let you find out which; that was so masterfully navigated. Rachel’s aloofness is very well explained and you haven’t seen an alpha who always asks his woman what she wants. There is nothing sexier than a man who defers to his woman and lets her steer her way. Micheal helped Rachel confront her demons, loved her through it, supported her and never once took charge of the situation without her permission. Partners at every level is what we are talking about.
Rich is an entertaining, toe-curling, hold your breath kind of book that you won’t want to put down even with the would be darkness of the theme.
Janet, you did it again.

Another great one by Janet!

A whodunnit with action and comedy. I love Rachel's sarcastic whit and how well Harvard can take her in stride and dish it right back. She is a strong female character that knows what she wants and will do whatever she has to do to get it. Harvard is just the guy to handle that with his calm logical reasoning. As they work together and learn to be a team they catch the culprit and solve a crime that changed her life. This is a standalone book but once you read it you will want to get the rest and read them all. I didn't want to put this book down and if I did I was rushing to get back to it.

I loved how this story came together! Thanks, Janet, for keeping Rachel strong and "herself" throughout her story. We just knew that Rachel had to be a complicated character with the way she has this total take-charge, don't-mess-with-me attitude that's been present throughout the entire Benson Security series. You did a fantastic job of merging her early, University-time life with what she made of herself from that point forward. I thought the sticky topic of her rape and subsequent blackmail was really handled well.

Michael "Harvard" Carter, fellow Benson Security employee and former CIA agent is the perfect match for Rachel. I loved their chemistry and the strength he shows when each layer of Rachel is pulled back and more and more of her is exposed.

It was great to see so many of Janet's characters from both her Benson Security series and her Invertary series show up to help Rachel get to the bottom of this mystery at TayFor Pharmaceuticals, her family's business. Benson Security has been hired to go undercover to figure out who's been stealing secrets from them. In order to get there, Rachel has to pretend to come back there to work and Michael will pose as her bodyguard. Michael just happens to be both an American and a black man, which seems to be a problem with one of Rachel's uncles. Janet even covered the topic of racism in an interesting and straightforward way.

The ending totally surprised me, which is the way I love a good mystery to end. There was tons of comedy, romance, suspense and heat in this book and it was very well written and a good collection of interesting characters. Thanks for a great story Janet!

I am always surprised when I read Janet’s books. She has a way of making you feel like you are in the story. From the first page you are sucked in and you don’t want to escape. When it ends you keep swiping or turning the pages because you want more and are disappointed when you know it’s over.
She took Rachel who is a character that is not easy to like and made her into someone I wanted to be. You really start to understand what makes this character the way she is by her past and her relationships with her family and friends.
Janet really knows how to write characters that are meant to be together. Rachel and Michael are total opposites. Rachel wants nothing to do with Michael but he has other ideas. After some flirty dialog, sexy dancing and intimate moments she realizes that maybe a relationship won’t be so bad. Let’s hope Michael and the Benson Security team can keep her safe so she can find out.
This book has it all like many of Janet’s other books. But this one is on a whole-'nother-level. In addition to action, romance and comedy she adds some suspense into the picture and does she deliver.
My favorite from Janet is her comedic dialog and comebacks that have you laughing out loud. She creates characters you want to be friends with and invite over for dinner. So, join Rachel, Michael and the lovable Benson security team for the time of your life, you won’t be disappointed. Janet is an extraordinary writer and I look forward to being surprised by more of her books.

Rich in laughter, rich in tears, rich in the way all great books are!! I couldn’t put it down and absolutely immersed myself in the feelings the writing evoked. This is a standalone book, but I have read and loved the whole series. In the previous books, the heroine of this book, Rachel, has been portrayed as a cold, arrogant woman who allows no one close. Rachel does do good deeds for people, but goes out of her way to be hateful to make up for those good deeds. Since the author is one of the best at rom-com, I wondered how she would make Rachel redeemable. I’m glad I had faith because this is one of Henderson’s best books ever! We find out that Rachel is repressed because she went through one of the worst traumatic experiences a woman can endure, and she was blackmailed into leaving her family’s business because of the experience. While she came out on the other side a stronger person, the experience causes her to trust very few people and let even less get close to her. She uses her waspishness to ward off affection and her sharp tongue to keep people away when they get too close. Harvard, the hero of the book, is perfect for her. He ignores her attitude, comes to realize that she’s a caring person beneath all of the snootiness, and his responses to her dry wit are hilarious, as is Rachel’s utter despair at how to handle him. The two of them go undercover at Rachel’s family’s business to try to find the person stealing company secrets. Enter a host of familiar characters from Benson Security, Rachel’s somewhat eccentric family members, and a mystery that keeps you guessing, and you have a great read that you won’t want to put down!

I've had a soft spot for prickly, standoffish Rachel for a long time, but now I've got a fully-developed, bona fide girl crush on this kicka$$ leading lady!

Patient, almost unflappable Harvard is her perfect counterpart, and I loved seeing him slowly, bit by bit, working his way behind Rachel's defenses.

While the story - like all Benson Security books - is dealing with some tough topics, I appreciate the way Janet Elizabeth Henderson handles the delicate balance between traumatic subject matter and her trademark humor.

If I had to pick a favorite scene, it would be Harvard taking Rachel Bachata dancing - the swoon is dialed up to 11, for sure!

Where do I begin?

This is a well-paced suspense-filled story filled with humour and heartfelt moments.

Janet always gives us alpha males who support their strong-willed women without expecting them to change—which is refreshing in this genre.

Rachel’s story dealt with an important and distressing issue that many women around the world face. The heroine shows strength as well as a level of vulnerability that suits her character and the situation.

Thank you for sharing your words with us and allowing us to escape from reality for a while.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rich. I have been eagerly awaiting Rachel's book and I was not disappointed. Rachel is a very tough character with a delightfully acerbic wit. In previous Benson Security books you become aware of trauma in Rachel's past and though definitely traumatic, Janet handles it with a light touch, focusing on Rachel as a survivor rather than a victim and even when Rachel lets Michael in, it is done in such a way that it does not become overly distressing. Michael ("Harvard") is absolutely perfect for Rachel with exactly the rock-solid personality and devotion that Rachel needs. The perfect book to alleviate some of the stress we are all facing in our uncertain real world right now.

Another book well-written and story well-told, Janet. Thank you, and I look forwarding to reading your next one.

This is a really fantastic whodunit. There were so many twists and turns, and I had trouble putting it down. When I did finally have to go feed my family, I kept thinking about the mystery and about Rachel and Michael. I was particularly impressed with the way the author handled Rachel's character. I haven't liked her since I read Magenta several years ago, and I wondered how I was going to deal with a whole book of her. But in this book, we get to see her through Michael's eyes. That changes everything. They make great sense as a couple, and they had some beautiful scenes together.

If you have seen the other reviews then right away you know that once again, Janet has completed another perfect book. How does she keep doing it!

It's hard hitting and emotional at times, but what I loved about this book was Rachel's determination not to continue being a victim to something that happened in her past. Having always loved her sass, we are drenched in it in this rollercoaster story that shows us her diverse and at times eccentric family and we get a strong insight into Harvards mind, and understand his attraction to Rachel.

Once again a great book, so worth your time.

I was given an advance copy of Rich to read and post my review! So here it goes....I’m giving Janet Elizabeth Henderson a standing “O” for this brilliantly written rollercoaster ride of emotions. She gave us Rachel the sharp witted, ball busting women who knows who and what she is. Then there’s Harvard an ex CIA agent who specialises in sharp witted, ball busting women. Rachel has to go home to help her families company, but she needs to go in undercover. She takes Harvard as her fake fiancé. She and Harvard quickly realise more is going on than they thought. Now Harvard and Benson security must do everything in their power to protect Rachel. There is so much more depth to this story...It’s a MUST READ page turner!

I absolutely love everything Janet has published and Rich did not disappoint me. The ability she has to include romance, suspense, and realistic humor in her books is a talent. If you haven’t read any of Janet’s books, start with “Lingerie Wars” and enjoy getting to know the characters as the develop. I’ve purchased everything she has written and patiently (not, but what can I do) wait for her next book. I wish someone would make a movie from her books!
