Düsseldorf

The bustling, modern city of Düsseldorf, with more than 600,000 inhabitants, is the capital of the German federal state Northrhine-Westphalia. Düsseldorf has the third-largest airport in Germany with more than 100 international destinations, and is, thus, easily reachable from many parts of the world. The modern city also offers many serene green spaces, in particular parks that run alongside the river Rhine, where it is easy to find spots of quietness and relaxation.

Düsseldorf, the seventh-largest city of the country, is also one of the wealthiest cities in Germany, and this will catch visitors' eye immediately. It abounds with elegant shops, exclusive hotels and fine restaurants, especially in areas around the media harbour and on the famous boulevard “Königsallee“(Kö for short). A number of global and international companies are based in Düsseldorf, in a well-balanced mix from different branches, in contrast to many other cities. In addition, Düsseldorf is a major trade fair city and holds some of the world’s largest trade fairs.

The city also boasts a variety of architectural styles from different eras. The media harbour is one of the modernised areas which have been recently enlarged with interesting and striking architecture, with many bars, restaurants and clubs. Visitors who would like to enjoy a spectacular view of the city may want to visit the television tower which is the city’s highest building whose observation platform offers views of the whole city. Another attractive part of the city is the Old town (German: Altstadt) which is also known as “the world’s longest bar”. Accordingly, this district can also boast many restaurants and some very old breweries.

Accommodation

The organizers have not made any special arrangements for accommodation. Participants are kindly asked to make their own arrangements in this regard. Düsseldorf is rich in events such as trade fairs, which attract many visitors from outside the city. This can sometimes lead to high occupancy rates among accommodation providers. Early booking is therefore recommended.

Below is a small, rather random and non-binding list of hotels in various categories as a rough guide. Of course, there is a much larger selection of different options on the online platforms. Thanks to the good public transport network, the conference venue can be easily reached even from distant places.
