Other ways we support students

Student associate programme

What is a LexisNexis student associate?

A student associate is a law student just like you. They have been fully trained to use the LexisNexis suite of online research services and how to pass that expertise on to others. Associates run regular clinics to provide fellow students with free support and assistance in using our legal research and practical guidance tools. Students can consult them on problems such as how to find a particular case or statute, how to find all the cases relevant to a specific problem, how best to search in order to maximise results, or even whether a particular journal or other source is available online.

With a student associate’s help you can:

  • Find what you are looking for quickly and easily.
  • Save time — less time researching means more time for what’s really important.
  • Reduce stress and be confident that you can deal with whatever an assessment or exam throws at you.
  • Win the moot — be the one to find that brand new case which swings the result.
  • Develop essential skills — research is an important part of any training contract, so why not hone your skills now?
  • Boost your employability — understand how you can use our research and practical tools to put you in the best position to win a training contract or pupillage.
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness — learn about the tools available to you on Lexis+ UK.

Want to stand out from the crowd when searching for a training contract or pupillage?

Join LexisNexis as a student associate and act as a representative on campus for our legal tech services. We’re looking for enthusiastic law students who’ll be studying during the academic year.

Successful candidates will receive a competitive salary, full training and ongoing support. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom. This will be a fixed term contract starting in September of each year.

We recruit student associates between March and July of each year. Keep an eye out here for the job link in the spring.

What do students say about being a LexisNexis student associate?

“The wider team are a delight to work with. Attending regular sessions with other student associates has given me the opportunity to be a part of a warm and helpful community. We’ve had plenty of fun together. From competing against each other in Christmas quizzes to everyone always being on hand to share their own experiences and offer their own advice.”

“Being a student associate has been one of the most rewarding experiences at university. It provides you with the opportunity to play a crucial role in helping and guiding students within the law school. It also develops your transferable skills, such as public speaking, leadership, legal research and commercial awareness, which will aid your future career goals in any field you may wish to pursue.”

“Working as a student associate is an incredibly fulfilling and well‐supported journey. The role provided me with directly transferable skills that law firms and other employers value, with skills such as effective outreach, managing targets and the self‐driven nature of work giving me a boost in employability.”

“I’ve been able to improve my own legal research skills, whilst growing numerous other transferable skills such as public speaking and time management. It fits flexibly around my other commitments, and assisting students of all stages to get to grips with legal research, helping them become certified so they can demonstrate this to employers, has also given me a great sense of achievement.”
