Kudos to Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS), Didde Welin Pilgaard and all the organizers behind their Accelerate Partner Summit 🌟. I've moved from two amazing days at the World Maritime University in Malmö earlier this week to a new learning/networking arena, MMMCZCS’s Accelerate Partner Summit in Copenhagen 🌍. Here, they have gathered around 400 people from their partner ecosystem who are all involved in the sustainable transformation of shipping 🚢. Think about it for a second…these are the people who are transforming an entire global industry and a really good example of how important interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration is. After all, we only have one planet and one ocean if we zoom out from all our individual organizations. There have been fantastic keynotes, quick speed-talks in the "spotlight zone," interactive workshops (with Lego!), and very educational 1:1 dialogues in the "green corridor corner" 🌱. And what a venue, the old Lokomotivværkstedet in Copenhagen, which sets the right industrial context 🏭. It’s inspiring to see what MMZCS and their partners have achieved since we, HUB Ocean, first connected with them in 2020. Now, it's about implementing system solutions at scale. I’m also impressed by their methodologies amd frameworks, for example, how they handle pre-feasibility and feasibility studies on green shipping corridors 📊. They systematize things and open source the methods so that other players can pick up and carry it forward if they wish 🔄. I'm already excited to dive deeper into this on day 2 of the summit. Green corridors is such a tangible concept that creates green momentum for both global and regional shipping 🌐. The beauty is that the concept can easily (I think…) be transferred to other environmental pressures from shipping, like pollution or biodiversity/nature 🌿 Finally, I'd like to quote Bo Cerup-Simonsen in his keynote, "Happiness is not a destination, but a journey. The same applies to the transformation of shipping. It is a journey, not necessarily a destination" 🛳️. We are proud to be knowledge partners with MMZCS, and I will probably be brimming with ideas for future mutual value exchange when I head home tomorrow afternoon. How can we overlay green corridors with blue corridors (biodiversity)…? How can we bring more visibility and interactivity to such corridors? How can we “detect” all the potential corridors in the world? How can we understand more about potential sector conflicts and improve coexistence of future ocean industries? How can we mitigate the “triple crisis” (climate, nature, pollution)? Data can not fix everything, but it can help us to take better decisions 😃 Isabella Cortzen Johan Svendsen Mathias Hintze Octavi Sadó Garriga Kasper Møller Nielsen

It is a sunny, warm, and lovely weekend morning and I am sitting here on my terrace preparing a bit for an exciting workshop at the World Maritime University in Malmö next week ☀️🐋🛳️ I look forward to meeting many knowledgeable people, learning a lot about the biodiversity-climate nexus, as well as contributing my own insights and sharing a bit about HUB Ocean’s exciting mission. The shipping sector is in an exciting phase around decarbonization, but biodiversity and impact on marine ecosystems are also gaining significant attention. Somewhat playfully, one might say that «nature is the new climate», but actually, these are closely linked hand in hand. There is also much positive development within the regulatory framework, for example with CSRD, ESRS E4 (Biodiversity and ecosystems), and more global disclosure frameworks like Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) 🐙🌊 I look forward to sharing more with you here on LinkedIn. Do not hesitate to get in touch if your organization is working with ideas or projects related to nature disclosures or is looking for practical and commercially viable ways to adapt the new frameworks. Combining earth data, technology and diversity equals Magic! ✨   DNB had the pleasure to organise its second "Champagne Coding" with Women in Data Science (WiDS) Worldwide Oslo this week. 🎉 We teamed up with HUB Ocean and Bloomberg, to explore how global assets, geospatial and ocean biogeochemistry data can be analysed to generate insights useful for green loans and sustainability linked loans. The focus this time around was on aquaculture, which is a multibillion industry, and an important part of Norwegian economy and DNBs portfolio. 🐟   There was a general sense of engagement, curiosity and a hands-on attitude during the evening, while the participants got to access, analyse and visualise the different data sets via python and Hub Ocean's platform. 💻    Jo Øvstaas, Ocean Innovation Director commented:“It was an honor to contribute to the WiDS hackathon yesterday evening! I thought it was a fantastic event with informative and engaging presentations, well-designed and fun hands-on activities, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere. ☺️   Perhaps we didn't "save the ocean" yesterday, but we did manage to spark curiosity and maybe recruit some new ocean ambassadors.”    The event counted with an amazing lineup, opening with   a keynote by Kimberly Mathisen, CEO of Hub Ocean and previous director for Microsoft NorgeAnna Silyakova walked us through how to interpret different ocean measurements as indicators for ocean and ecosystem health.  🌊 Morten Knutzen and Mari Kvivesen Johansen introduced DNBs Sustainable Loan Framework, and Dag Sletmo nailed it by describing what insights are useful for promoting a sustainable aquaculture industry, and what are current challenges faced by this industry. 💡 We finalised the event with an intimate round table where participants and organisers shared the findings, challenges and the things that they found interesting/enjoyable. 🤝🌟

At PGS, we're committed to conducting our seismic surveys in an environmentally responsible manner. A key part of this commitment is the essential role of Marine Mammal Observers (MMOs) onboard our vessels. Today, we meet Kadu Quintana, one of our dedicated MMOs, who shares his passion for marine life and the importance of his work. Kadu's journey to becoming an MMO began with a passion for cetaceans (whales, dolphins, and porpoises). His internship at a marine mammal laboratory during college sparked his interest, leading him to pursue a biology degree and later, a Master's in Oceanography. While working on his thesis, he gained valuable experience as an Environmental Technician, further solidifying his desire to work with marine mammals. "It all came together when I got the opportunity to work onboard Ramform Titan after a friend recommended me for a position as a Marine Mammal Observer (MMO) at Toveri Gerenciamento de Projetos Integrados." says Kadu. "This role allows me to combine my scientific knowledge with the practical application of protecting marine mammals and sea turtles in their natural habitat." ❓ So, what exactly does an MMO do onboard a seismic vessel? Kadu explains, "Our primary focus is to meticulously scan the surrounding area for marine mammals and sea turtles during seismic operations. If we detect any animals within a designated exclusion zone around the seismic sources, we immediately notify the crew to hold the operations. This crucial step mitigates the impact of the source activity on these noise-sensitive creatures who rely on sound for communication, navigation, and feeding." 🔭 Why are MMOs so important? Seismic surveys rely on sound waves for data collection, but this has the potential to affect marine life. "MMOs act as a bridge between environmental responsibility and efficient seismic operations," says Kadu. "By monitoring aquatic life and enforcing environmental regulations, we aim to mitigate potential risks to these animals and gather valuable data on their behavior and presence." The data collected is also instrumental to projects like HUB Ocean. Such projects contribute to the collective understanding of the ocean and its biota. These collaborations are transforming the collected data into knowledge about marine mammals’ concentration and distribution patterns. 🎯 What motivates Kadu in this crucial role? "There's an immense sense of purpose in knowing that my work directly contributes to protecting these magnificent animals," shares Kadu. "Every day brings the opportunity to learn about new species, observe their natural behaviors, and ensure minimal disruption to their environment." At PGS, we're proud to have dedicated MMOs like Kadu on board. Their expertise and passion are integral to our commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible seismic exploration. #MMO #offshore #acquisition #energysecurity
