Conservation AI has a new #education and #outreach page under the "About" section on our webpage. It is early days yet but one of the really nice features we are working on is #animated #story #books for #young #children (between the ages of 3 and 5). They are short stories about aspects of #conservation we are working on at Conservation AI with our partners; One of our books is about Ollie the #orangutan who has a forest wallet (based on the concept of "Interspecies Money" coined by Jonathan Ledgard and Erik Meijaard). They are free to download - show them to you kids and let us know what you think. Liverpool John Moores University https://lnkd.in/e99DTCBx
About us
Conservation AI aims to harness machine learning for various conservation projects. At present we focus on detecting and classifying animals, humans, and man-made objects indicative of poaching (e.g. cars, fires). We focus work with images from visual spectrum and thermal infrared cameras that are used on drones or in camera traps. The aim is to provide a user-friendly workflow that can allow for near-real time detection/classification and non-real time detection/classification.

Conservation AI is really pleased to feature in the #EarthDay piece by Reolink. We use many wifi 3/4g Reolink cameras worldwide and they have been fantastic for the real-time detection work we do at Conservation AI to monitor #tigers, #elephants, #pangolins, #apes and many more. Great set of detections from #Uganda! Using 3/4G, we're able to transmit these images in near real-time. Our #AI instantly processes this data, providing conservationists with swift and actionable insights. Chester Zoo Liverpool John Moores University #aiforgood #bidiversity

It has been fantastic developing Conservation AI over the last six years with my colleague and best friend Carl Chalmers. We have had lots of highs and lots of lows but without a doubt this has been the best project I have worked on. We have developed so much #ml tech for this platform and there is still so much more to do. This week has been amazing with Conservation AI appearing in several national newspapers and media outlets including The Guardian, The Independent, and BBC News. Running this project alongside teaching and trying to meet our KPIs as academics has been incredibly hard commanding 70-80s a week over the last 6 years and loosing over 20 days holiday a year over the same time period. But I would not change a thing - it is amazing what two people can do when they put there minds together (could not have done it without my best friend Carl Chalmers - thank you for the great times we have had). https://lnkd.in/eUWbz8n4

It has been quite a week for Conservation AI. We have appeared in several national newspapers and media outlets including The Guardian, The Independent, BBC News and many more, for our partnership with the #National #Hedgehog #Monitoring #Programme. We hope our UK Mammals AI model will help to accelerate the data processing for this project and help to find useful insights for the protection of these amazing animals. Here is some footage of a hedgehog being tracked using #ai from our earlier #uk #mammals #vision #model. Liverpool John Moores University

Conservation AI is really pleased to be providing the AI for the "National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme". We hope our UK Mammals model (which can identify hedgehogs and many other mammals in the UK) will help to accelerate the data processing for this project. Great working with Chester Zoo and the Mount Kenya Game Conservancy to monitor critically endangered #Bongo in #realtime using #ai. These 'Bongo were released into the 314-hectare Mawingu Mountain Bongo Sanctuary. There are less than 100 #Bongo left in the #wild today so this is a crucial project to safeguard the future of these magnificent #animals. Big thanks to Tommy Sandri, Robert Aruho, Rachel Mcann and Carmen Moore for helping us to collect enough data to train the #model. Liverpool John Moores University
