What an amazing day yesterday with the team at Kerridge Commercial Systems! Thank you so much for hosting and helping young people learn about what skills are valued in the workplace. If your business would like to get involved and help us inspire a future workforce, get in touch.
What a fantastic day I’ve had with Matt Pycock and the team at Kerridge Commercial Systems in Gateshead. We hosted a MyBigCareer Insight Day for 14 Year 10 students from Belmont Community School in Durham. All the students said that they felt more confident in terms of their employability skills after today’s workshops and Belmont Careers Lead, Scott McMahon, said the CV skills session worked particularly well! Thank you so much to everybody involved in supporting us to raise the #careeraspirations and #employability of our young future North East workforce

Reflecting on my career as a teacher, it’s alarming to hear that such dramatic cuts to teaching posts are having to be made. At MyBigCareer we see every day how stretched the resources are for the schools we support in areas of multiple deprivation. Inevitably this means it’s increasingly challenging for the teaching staff to provide a careers programme that meets the Gatsby Benchmarks, where students are empowered and informed of the breadth of opportunities available to them. With 45% of North East schools facing staff cuts - the highest in the country - it is no coincidence that we are seeing rapidly increasing demand for our programme in the North East. Our schools partners are dedicated to their learners and want to do the very best to provide quality careers education and experiences for students with employers, but they’re needing our help more than ever to do so. But we’re at full capacity right now in the North East and can’t offer our programme to any more schools until we secure further funding. Could your company help us meet this demand? Message me or drop us a line hello@mybigcareer.org to find out more

Fantastic day at Wiggin on Tuesday, as they hosted local students from All Saints Academy in Cheltenham. It was wonderful seeing the students so engaged and eager to learn more about the legal profession. The interview practice sessions and negotiation workshops were particularly popular! Every student who attended agreed they benefited from the event and gained skills that will help them in their future careers. Some of the students highlights from the day: “I really enjoyed the interviews and discussing different law routes with real professionals.” “I enjoyed the tasks we were given as it helped me learn new skills. I also found it interesting talking to people who worked here as I learnt more about law which I am considering doing.” Thank you to the team at Wiggin for hosting such a brilliant day for the students! Please reach out if you would like to get involved and help us inspire a future workforce. #futureworkforce #socialmobility #employability #partnerships

With the final school term fast approaching, we looked back at what we have achieved so far this academic year. Since September, we have: Supported the employability of 2,902 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Deployed 105 volunteers to support underrepresented students in London and the North East Hosted 1,987 1:1 career coaching sessions - connecting young people to role models from the working world who listen and build confidence. Together, we work to increase young people’s knowledge of careers and help them secure meaningful employment - irrespective of their academic ability or chosen pathway. #careerseducation #socialmobility #meaningfulemployment

Huge thanks to Casey Bullen, Rachel Cornforth and the amazing Talent Team at Learning Curve Group. We welcomed learners from Monkwearmouth Academy in Sunderland to their Head Office for one of our #InsightDays yesterday. Students learnt about the MPCT Military Academy and also about #careers in Marketing & Branding. We were incredibly impressed with their teamwork skills when faced with a Dragon’s Den style challenge. Learners created a new food brand and Tik Tok video in a very short space of time! It was such a joy seeing their confidence blossom as they experienced CV and Interview workshops to enhance their future #employabilityskills #inspire #careerseducation #socialmobility #northeast #northeastchamberofcommerce
