Earlier this week a few of the Naimuri team visited the Salford Foodbank to donate some of their time to support this amazing and heavily relied upon charitable resource. We had a great time with Miriam and the team collecting food from the supermarkets, helping to unpack and sort the products, pack bags and load the van to send the parcels off to the food bank hubs. The team at the food bank highlighted how the numbers of people accessing food banks has significantly increased over the last few years and people from professions such as teachers and nurses, are sadly needing to regularly access the service. Volunteering, building connections with local communities and giving back is just part of the Naimuri culture. Last week was Black Inclusion Week (BIW), which is a new but important workplace initiative. The aim of which is to raise the awareness of black people in the United Kingdom, with a secondary aim of highlighting the importance of inclusion within the workplace environment. Here are a few words from one of the Naimuri team, about what the week means to him..... "From a personal perspective one of my heroes is Misan Harriman and I’d like to share with you a brief overview of his story. Misan is Nigerian born and is one of today’s most popular visual storytellers, an Oscar Nominated filmmaker and social activist. Misan was the first black person to shoot British Vogue's September issue cover. Misan is also a avid mental health campaigner, particularly in the area of Neurodiversity, Dyslexia, diversity and inclusion. He is also the Chair of London's Southbank Centre and the founder of Culture3, who’s mission is to explore what web 3.0s impacts are on society. With all this being said, in order to focus on inclusion effectively, we need an understanding of the barriers to inclusion and the biases that we as individuals have. These factors can act as barriers to meaningful change, and we as individuals, organisations and a society need to understand and seek to address these issues. Here, there needs to be a desire to debate and challenge ourselves in order to affect meaningful change. We at Naimuri are committed to Diversity and Inclusion. Throughout the year there will be a series of diversity and inclusion activities initiated to promote diversity and inclusion across a range of under-represented communities. At Naimuri we believe that the promotion of diversity and inclusion should not be limited to a week per underrepresented group, but should be a permanent part of our workplace culture". #blackinclusionweek #diversityandinclusion

Ruth M. has been recently appointed as the new D&I power group lead here at Naimuri. For Mental Health Awareness Week, Ruth felt inspired to write about the overlap between Diversity and Inclusion and Mental Health. Her aim as the new Diversity and Inclusion Power Group lead at Naimuri is to help make Naimuri a welcoming place for all, irrespective of someone’s background, as well as ensuring the recruitment process and community outreach work are as inclusive as possible. This week is Deaf Awareness Week. Each year, the week brings awareness to the isolation that deaf people can experience, whilst promoting social inclusion of those with hearing loss. The week also generates awareness of British Sign Language, spreading the form of communication to make society a more accessible place for people with hearing loss.
