🌟 Norway is setting the bar high in beverage container recovery and recycling, with a deposit return system (DRS) boasting a 92% return rate and less than 1% littered. How do they do it? An approach we call Clean Loop Recycling ♻️ By returning beverage containers to reverse vending machines via DRS, the containers maintain their quality, enabling them to be recycled into new containers again and again. This closed-loop system not only minimizes litter but also helps to create a circular economy. Want to know more about this approach? 🎉 We are excited to share a new milestone!   In January, TOMRA and the City of Aarhus launched a city-wide pilot for reusable takeaway packaging.   Today, consumers in Aarhus have returned more than 200,000 reusable cups! 🔄 This means an equivalent amount of disposable cup waste has been avoided.💪 Systems like this are integral to the transition towards a circular economy. Congratulations to the citizens of Aarhus! #REUSE #ReusablePackaging #Reusable #TakeawayPackaging #CircularEconomy

Excited to share a highlight from this week! ✨ Our CEO, Tove Andersen, had the privilege of attending the Choose France Summit 2024 at the Château de Versailles, following an invitation from President Emmanuel Macron himself. 🇫🇷 This event brought together over 200 CEOs, discussing how business and government can align to create more opportunities for sustainable growth. 📈 Among the many thought-provoking discussions, Tove had the privilege of talking with the Junior Minister in Charge of Biodiversity and Sea, Hervé Berville, about the role of #circularity in addressing the ever-pressing challenge of #plasticpollution. 🌍 At TOMRA, we're aligned with France in the fight against plastic pollution and climate change. France's proactive stance in the UN plastics treaty negotiations resonates with our own mission. We're dedicated to contributing to these vital discussions, armed with our 10 recommendations for effective solutions. https://shorturl.at/vDVX8 💡 #ChooseFrance #CircularEconomy 🌱

Tackling plastic pollution requires a global effort 🌏 The recent INC-4 session saw global leaders, stakeholders, and experts get together in Canada to address the pressing issue of plastic pollution. While there's optimism for progress, there are still challenges that must solved. Here is a short breakdown of the key highlights: 📈 Progress: Key proposals have been made regarding restrictions and phase-outs, product design for reuse and recycling, and extended producer responsibility (EPR). ✅ Agreements: There is a high level of alignment on the importance of enhancing waste management and establishing financing mechanisms. 💡 Opportunities: The formal intersessional work offers a chance for further progress. Despite these strides, there are still uncertainties regarding treaty adoption and negotiation pace. As we move forward in the fight against plastic pollution, it's important to progress with specific definitions and concrete targets, particularly in areas of strong alignment like waste management. We call on governments around the world to seize this opportunity and acknowledge their role. Their commitment to implementing meaningful policies and promoting international cooperation is key for effectively addressing plastic pollution. 💪 At TOMRA, we're committed to combating plastic pollution through innovative solutions and partnerships. The verdict is in: a unified deposit return scheme #DRS #DRS across the devolved nations in the UK is favored by 60% of respondents in our recent survey. According to UK’s Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs, across the UK, consumers purchase an estimated 31 billion single-use drinks containers each year – 12 billion plastic drinks bottles, 14 billion drinks cans. A significant amount of these containers ends up littered or in landfills. "Public opinion and environmental concerns strongly support the deposit return scheme, signaling a widespread demand for action. As we face issues like litter, climate change, and sustainability, it's obvious that we need significant changes now. By working together, we can transform numbers into real solutions and create enduring change.” Says John Lee, Vice President Public Affairs UK and Ireland, TOMRA.
