“The difference between equality and equity for me, it starts with equity.” Zanele Mthembu, Chairperson of Sisters Working in Film & TV (SWIFT), is a pioneer in creating access and opportunities for women in what was once a male-dominated industry. Throughout her career spanning over two decades, she has worked tirelessly in advocating for change in the media industry, from historical imbalances and a legacy of discrimination against women. 📣 #GenderMonth: My name is Amanda Nyingwa and I’m a Technical Advisor under the BIA and ABioSA projects. Before that I served as a technical advisor under NatuReS from 2020 when my career at GIZ started. GIZ has invested in me both in tangible and intangible ways. For example, I’ve participated in trainings where I obtained certificates. I’ve travelled to international conferences where I presented on behalf of our programme. These practical investments provided a strong foundation and were critical conduits to the intangible investments such as learning through exposure, relationship building with partners, engaging and collaborating with stakeholders. In terms of accelerating my progress, these investments have definitely helped with legitimising my role and contribution as an advisor within the sector we work in and towards the growth and progression of the sector. To put things into context, I’ve noted that when I speak and engage with sector stakeholders it is from a point of awareness and sensitivity. I think these are important factors for sparking genuine dialogue towards impactful collective action to shift the needle in whatever scope or environment you’re in. #InternationalWomensDay #InvestInWomen #GenderEquality #GermanCooperation #SustainableDevelopment #SDG5 #GIZWomen
