In 2022 we installed rooftop solar PV panels at our Al Futtaim lab in Dubai to reduce our carbon footprint and energy costs, moving us closer to Net Zero CO2 emissions by 2035. The project, led by Rahul Ranjan, Procurement Manager, under the leadership of Jason Dodds, Vice President of Built Environment, and Juan I. Marziotte, Finance Director of Integrations, has already shown impressive results. 🌍☀️ In the first year, our solar panels generated 747,114 kWh of clean energy and are projected to reduce emissions by 9,100 metric tons over 25 years. The project also provides operational benefits, such as guaranteed generation and no maintenance costs for 20 years. 🔧🔋 As we work to reduce our global environmental impact, replicating successful initiatives like this will be crucial. Element Concord recently volunteered at the Monument Crisis Center, a community-based non-profit family resource center serving Contra Costa County in California, USA. The team helped to assemble care packages for local people in need, containing essential food, toiletries, sleeping bags, plus special birthday gift bags. 🛍️ Chrisara Young, Microbiology Technician at Concord, said: “Volunteer work is not only rewarding but incredibly helpful to our community. To support our colleagues, we created a toolkit with resources, team activities, and examples from our labs to reduce plastic footprint: 💧 Element Bloomington installed water fountains to eliminate plastic bottles 🧪 Element Cincinnati is using 100% recycled plastic tubes for storing specimen samples ♻️ Element Doha launched reusable item campaigns and hosted eco-events ☕ Element Silicon Valley introduced a cold brew coffee initiative to reduce plastic pod usage We recognize that more needs to be done, but every step, no matter how big or small, is important in creating a plastic-free future.
