Navigating your job search with new features that keep you safe on LinkedIn

People often ask me how to find jobs and feel confident that the role they're looking for is a great fit. And with the rise in fraudulent activity taking place across the internet and scammers becoming more sophisticated, our teams are constantly working to ensure that when you’re searching for a job or connecting on LinkedIn, it’s safe, secure and easy. We use artificial intelligence and teams of experts to stop the majority of fraudulent activity before you ever see it. And, if you do encounter anything you believe is off or could be a scam, we encourage you to report it.

We recently shared some updates on how we’re verifying account authenticity. Today, I want to share more about new tools to safely guide you through your job search on LinkedIn every step of the way.

Making it easier to recognize and avoid suspicious jobs

We recognize that job seeking can feel challenging and overwhelming at times, especially amidst today’s evolving market. As you search for open roles on LinkedIn, we’ll now surface safety tips as a friendly reminder of what you should keep an eye out for to help you more easily avoid suspicious jobs:

  • If someone asks for payment, that’s a red flag; you should never give out your credit card or private identity information, like your social security number in the U.S.
  • Beware of postings that claim high pay for little work.
  • A job offer after just one remote interview is rarely a legitimate deal.

Increasing your confidence that a hirer is actually who they say they are

Once you’ve narrowed your job search and started applying, you might seek out and follow people at companies where you’d like to work. This is not only a great way to learn more about the role, culture, and company, but it can help flag anything suspicious.  For example, a new feature we’ve added allows you to see when a profile was created, last updated, and whether the account has a verified phone number or work email associated. We’ll also include when a job poster’s profile was created directly in the job listing.

Signaling potential high-risk content in real time

We’ve recently added warnings within LinkedIn messages that may include high-risk content that could impact your security. For example, we will alert you if a message asks you to take the conversation to another platform, as that can sometimes be a sign of a scam. If something doesn’t feel right, these warnings will also give you the choice to report the content without letting the sender know.
