The initial scoping research for the digital inclusion service was delivered a year early, allowing the project to pivot to take advantage of an opportunity with Good Things Foundation and use the rest of the research funding into delivering year one of the service.

Goal
  • Maximise the public and private investment in full fibre connectivity.
Action
  • Connected London Programme Investment to improve digital connectivity in under-served homes and areas.
Progress
  • The Connected London team have been working with boroughs to ensure their social housing portfolios have legal agreements with operators to install fibre upgrades to help connect social housing and deliver more investment in a borough’s infrastructure.
Goal
  • Ensure City Hall investment in basic digital skills reaches those who need it most.
Action
  • Skills investment to support skills to get online for Londoners who need it.
Progress
  • The Mayor of London’s Skills Roadmap for London sets the direction of travel for adult education and skills in London.  It commits to improving the digital infrastructure of London’s adult education services, improving digital connectivity and access to devices for learners. The roadmap also includes support to access essential digital skills.  Via the GLA skills budget it is delivering essential digital skills entitlement.
Goal
  • Develop a better co-ordinated device offer for the most excluded and support London’s voluntary sector.
Action
  • New digital access package

  • Increase provision of devices & date (including fixed) affordability for Londoners in need.

Progress
  • The Digital Inclusion Service pilot, in partnership with LOTI and Good Things Foundation was launched in June 2022. This service builds on LOTI’s findings as part of the Digital Inclusion Innovation Programme. A call to action was presented to the June London Recovery Board, with a series of follow ups happening, specifically around securing digital devices from business and designing the referral system with the voluntary sector.
