Flat-pack furniture giant Ikea is to open its first 'mini store' in London on the back of several pilot branches last year.

The new city centre store will be in Hammersmith, West London, and follows the opening of its most sustainable branch in Greenwich, and two studio branches in London in 2019.

However unlike its Tottenham Court Road and Bromley branches - which focus on kitchen and bathrooms only - customers will be able to choose and shop from more than 2,000 products.

It comes after the company spoke of plans to make shopping "more personal" for customers over the next three years.

The new Hammersmith store will focus on interior design, and will stock home furnishing accessories rather than furniture.

The branch will open in Spring 2021 on Kings Street, where the shopping centre is located.

A mini Ikea restaurant will also open nearby - where shoppers will be able to dine in on its famous meatballs.

The West London branch will follow Ikea's two planning studios on Tottenham Court Road and in Bromley which offer a "tailored service" for families planning kitchens and bedrooms on a budget.

There are also five existing London stores in Wembley, Tottenham, Croydon, Lakeside and Greenwich.

Peter Jelkeby, at IKEA UK & Ireland, said: "Our plan to open a new city centre store in Hammersmith is an exciting next-step, as we continue to respond to people’s evolving shopping habits, making IKEA more convenient than ever before.

"People have been eager to see our affordable range and access our life at home expertise on the high-street for some time, so we’re excited to introduce a unique IKEA store to the vibrant local community in Hammersmith and London."

Gerard Groener, at, Ingka Centre which is managing the project, said, "Our urban projects are all about getting closer to more people. More of our customers are living in cities than ever before, and a regenerated Kings Mall will be an ideal location for reaching millions of Londoners."

Stephen Cowan, leader of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham added: "We’re very pleased Hammersmith will benefit from having Britain’s first IKEA city store.

"The new Ingka Centre will help rejuvenate King Street and improve our neighbourhood for all our residents and local businesses. We’re delighted to benefit from this huge investment and look forward to working with Ingka Centres, our residents and the wider community to deliver something really special here."
