Change the Narrative

Mobility Camp (previously Transport Planning Camp) is back for its 6th year!  This annual volunteer run unconference brings together transport planners, modellers, engineers, technologists, social activists, academics and others interested in discussing and coming up with solutions to ongoing challenges in the transport sector. 

At an unconference, only the theme and rooms are set up by the organisers. The sessions are suggested and decided upon by attendees on the day. It provides everyone with the opportunity to shape the event, so be prepared to get involved and have some fun! 

 The idea is a simple one:

1. You book a venue and get lots of interesting and brilliant people together to focus on a certain theme. This year the theme is 'Changing the Narrative'.

2. You get them inspired. It can be through a challenge statement, an inspiring talk, or just the energy of others in the room. 💡

3. The audience come up with ideas for the topics to focus on throughout the day. They then vote on them. Whatever gets the most votes, goes on the agenda. ✋

4. Your day is then ably facilitated by amazing volunteers, who ensure there are plentiful ideas and energy throughout the day. ⚡

What do you get out of it? Many events would say a certain amount of hours of CPD or lots of slides to look at - which is valuable in its own right. But at an unconference, what you get out of it is *ideas and inspiration*.

Not the "that's a good idea" inspiration, but the "that's an amazing idea and I feel so good I can do it now" inspiration.

You get a sense that you are not alone in the struggles you face, and you get inspired by those who have done amazing things. 

 Attending Mobility Camp will offer you unique opportunities to learn, share knowledge, connect with like-minded individuals, and actively contribute to one of the most challenging yet crucial conversations in the transport sector. 

“My first-time attending transport planning camp was as a student and that made me want to join the organizing team this year. As a student often it is difficult to interact with professionals and get your ideas out there. Attending transport planning camp helped me present my views and ideas on various topics to professionals at all levels and made me understand what is ambitious as a young professional as to what is a physically viable goal at industry standards of working. It was a really fun day where I was able to speak freely without the fear of being judged for saying the wrong things and learned from a lot of different people in different sectors of the transport industry. I urge all students who are interested in the transport industry and would like to pursue a career in it to attend to get a feel of the way we can shape things moving forward.”
