Changing Research Practices

The Changing Research Practices Project was launched in August 2020 to look at how the Covid-19 pandemic was disrupting social research practices. Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, the project is now in its third and final phase.

The third phase, Changing Research Practices III: Engaging with uncertainty and Covid-19, is adding an in-depth exploration of how researchers are engaging with the contextual uncertainty of Covid-19 to manage methodological contingencies.

Taking a longer term perspective, the study asks: How productive is uncertainty for research methods? In this phase, the research team has been working in dialogue with a dozen researchers in the thick of uncertainty and producing a special issue of the International Journal of Social Research to add to the resources on this site.
