We have an exciting new opportunity within the Vehicle Workshops Team based at Central Depot, Dormanstown. Redcar and Cleveland Council operate a fleet of over 220 vehicles for a range of purposes including refuse collection, keeping our borough clean and green, property maintenance and home to school transport.
The Vehicle Workshop team are responsible for the maintenance and repair of all of the fleet vehicles ranging from small panel vans to 32 tonne hookloaders and everything in between.
You will gain and develop skills in all aspects of motor vehicle, horticultural and related plant equipment repair and maintenance within the municipal domain, whilst working towards an agreed academic qualification in motor vehicle repair.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working, positive individual who is self-motivated and able to work using their own initiative as well as being a team player. The successful candidate will be committed to providing an excellent service and be willing to learn and develop their knowledge.
This is a fixed-term contract for 36 months, with opportunities to apply for permanent positions once suitably qualified and where posts are available. In a commitment to the development of the successful candidate we will provide support for attendance at college and if required will provide assistance to achieve driving qualifications.

During your apprenticeship you will be working towards the nationally recognised Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician, level 3 qualification at Darlington College one day a week. This is located close to the train station. Some distance learning may also be possible. Assistance with travel arrangements can be provided where needed.
Essential Requirements
Apprenticeship opportunities are open to anyone over the age of 16 years old with no upper age limit.
You will need to have a minimum of:
Grade 4 (equivalent to Grade C or above) at GCSE English and Maths or functional skills level 2 qualification in English and Maths.
You will need to be committed/willing to work towards the level 3 Apprenticeship standard Heavy vehicle service and Maintenance Technician. Applicants who have already achieved this qualification at Level 3 or higher will be ineligible to apply. The applicant will need to have a good work ethic and the ability to communicate effectively with other members of staff and have a willing commitment to his/her personal and professional development. As part of the short-listing process, candidates will be invited for some work place familiarity sessions prior to reaching the interview stage.
