Oakham Musicians’ Success in Rotary Competition

Congratulations to four of our instrumental pupils, who gave splendid solo performances on Saturday 4 February at the Melton Mowbray round of the national Rotary Young Musicians’ Competition.

In the intermediate class, Baker and Isabelle both gave accomplished performances on the alto sax and piano respectively, with Baker being selected to progress to the next round of the competition as the best intermediate instrumentalist. Joshua achieved the same distinction for his horn playing in the senior class, progressing to the District Final on 12 March.

However, Harriet earned the particular distinction of winning the whole junior class on the violin, and then being chosen at the best musician of the day due to her mature and sonorous playing of Elgar’s Chanson de Matin. Very well done to all four musicians, and good luck to Baker, Harriet and Joshua in the District Final on Sunday 12 March.
