Physician Associates

Physician Associates are healthcare professionals with a generalist medical education – and are becoming an increasingly vital part of multidisciplinary mental health teams.

The Physician Associates role in mental health can be especially important in ensuring patients receive holistic, continuous care. Working with a dedicated medical supervisor, they are supported to manage a varied case load, keeping up their generalist skills whilst receiving specialist training in mental health.

As a College, we hope to encourage NHS Trusts, University Health Boards, Social and Healthcare Trusts, medical schools and other stakeholders to build Physicians Associates into their teams. We’re also providing support and information to those who are keen to become PAs in mental health, as well as those already working.
