Warm Home Discount

What is the Warm Home Discount?

The Warm Home Discount is here to help those who are struggling to keep up with their energy payments. Customers on the scheme will get a one-off, annual discount of £150 (inclusive of VAT) on their electricity bill. It’s a scheme supported by the government and energy suppliers.

Am I eligible for the Warm Home Discount?

In England and Wales there are now two core groups who are eligible. Core Group 1 are those in receipt of the guaranteed element of pension credit and Core Group 2 are those on certain means tested benefits and have the highest heating costs.

In Scotland there are the Core Group and Broader Group. The Core Group is automatically entitled to receive the WHD. If this is you, you should receive a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) who'll arrange for your discount to be made automatically. The Broader Group is entitled to the discount if you have a low income and receive certain benefits like Income Support.

How to apply for the Warm Home Discount?

If you’re in the Core Groups you don’t have to do a thing, you will receive a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) confirming your status and they will arrange for the discount to be applied automatically.

If you’re in Scotland and in the Broader Group, you’ll need to apply for the Warm Home Discount scheme. You can contact us on 0808 501 5277 and our lines are open 9am - 5pm Monday to Thursday, 9am - 4pm Friday.

Do I need to apply for the Warm Home Discount scheme every year?

If you are in the Broader Group you need to reapply each year. If you are in a Core Group and you are still eligible, this will be automatically taken care of for you via the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

How will I find out if my Warm Home Discount application has been successful?

You will either receive confirmation as part of completing the application or a confirmation by email or in writing.

When is the Warm Home Discount paid? How will I receive it?

You'll receive the payment on your electricity account between November 2023 and March 2024.

If you've got a prepayment meter then we'll send you a top-up voucher to redeem.
