Global partnerships

Universities often talk about equitable partnerships but there is little understanding of what this truly means. This is because it is difficult to establish equitable partnerships in an unequal world.

Instead, most partnerships concern student mobility, often taking the form of international exchanges or dual degrees – students begin their studies at one institution and move to another. But what is needed are joint programmes that bring knowledge systems into conversation with each other so that we can tackle the transnational challenges facing us today.

With our new equitable partnerships, we aim to do just this. These unique programmes developed in partnership with institutions across Africa, Asia and the Middle East are co-designed, co-taught and co-accredited with a single fee charged to all students.

Each programme explores a key global issue from a Global South-Global North perspective, providing students with a rich learning experience that crosses knowledge systems. 

SOAS is working with a growing number of university partners to offer students a range of dual degree programmes (at undergraduate and postgraduate level), as well as progression and articulation arrangements.

Dual degrees provide students with the opportunity to take degrees at (and receive two separate awards from) two different universities in a shorter amount of time than it would take to complete both degrees separately.
