Jóna Þórey Pétursdóttir LLM, is an Icelandic Human Rights lawyer working as an associate for the law firm Réttur - Adalsteinsson & Partners in Reykjavik, Iceland. She holds a BA degree and Mag. Jur. degree in Law from the University of Iceland. Alongside her Mag. Jur. studies, she was an assistant teacher and assistant to lecturer at the department of Law at the University of Iceland. Jóna graduated with distinction from the University of Edinburgh with an LLM in Human Rights Law in November 2022 and wrote her thesis on the possibilities for the right to a cleaner, healthy, and sustainable environment to impact international humanitarian law, particularly weapons reviews. Alongside her studies at the University of Edinburgh, she did research for the Human Rights Institute of the University of Iceland and held the mandate of Iceland’s UN Youth Delegate on Human Rights, which included attending the UN General Assembly, participating in negotiations on UN resolutions and more. Jóna has been an activist for human rights in Iceland for some time, including being one of the organizers of the School Strikes for Climate in Iceland and was one of JCI Top 10 Outstanding Young Persons following her term as the Student Council President of the University of Iceland for her contributions for the right to education in Iceland.
