Evening Standard photographer Jeremy Selwyn’s image of Theresa May laughing at Smithfield Market has seen him nominated for a prestigious prize.

A powerful picture of the inferno at Grenfell Tower is another one that has won him a nomination for News Photographer of the Year at the UK Picture Editors Guild Awards.

It was used on the Standard’s front page and seen around the world.

Selwyn’s career has taken him from Bosnia to Northern Ireland.

Other nominated images include a harrowing shot of MP Tobias Ellwood after the terror attack on the Palace of Westminster (Stefan Rousseau), and a picture of prankster Simon Brodkin after he handed Theresa May a P45 during her conference speech (Bruce Adams).

The winners of the awards, in association with Shutterstock, will be announced on March 12.
