WELCOME

I work as an independent researcher and consultant on gender and environmental issues.

With forty years experience of academic research, teaching and management, and over twenty years experience of volunteering in women's and environmental organisations, I now work independently on projects which will advance environmental and gender justice.

It is my deeply held belief that there can be no solutions to environmental problems without addressing social injustices, and that social and environmental problems, and their solutions, need to be understood as interconnected.

Highlights

2023
It's the final year of the Empowering Women for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development programme for which I am the gender advisor. The two PhD students I am advising are getting ready to submit their dissertations. They are publishing papers on gender equality in marine research and  education (see 'Articles') and preparing their kappas (these are PhDs by publication). The team is also collectively writing a chapter for a book on feminist approaches to climate policy, and developing a gender action plan for use in the ocean science sector.

I will be running a gender awareness workshop for those who manage stadium sports through the EU funded ACCESS project (Achieving Circularity in Cities through Environmental Sustainability of Sports) coordinated by ACR+ and Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies. We will be exploring how an attention to gender can help achieve greater sustainability.
